In the first half of 2015...remember this is revenue, not market share......

Downloads 40% (falling), Streaming 33% (rising), CD 16% (still falling), Vinyl 8% (rising),

Adele's latest album sold 800,000 in first few days, 250000 were downloads, the rest....CD. Discuss.

550,000 audiophiles needed to test their new cables with something other than Norah Jones and Diana Krall?

OK, so lots of people have terrible taste in music perhaps?

Why is there so much Adele hating on this forum? I get Audiophiles not being into Niki Minaj, but Adele? Seriously? She neither looks nor sounds like a modern artist.

she has an old school voice that's why she has sold so meany albums as lots of young + older people like her

That's my opinion of her as well. But judging from the recent Adele thread and comments here it seems as if a lot of WHFers don't like her music.

I like Adele's music but I can't listen to it because I think it is horrifically produced and mastered. Chuck it in the unlistenable pile of poo by Rick Rubin.

Back to the subject of how we'll be sourcing our music in 15 to 20 years' time.

I note (with sadness) that Qobuz has gone into receivership. I've been using Qobuz Classical (16/44.1 streaming) for the last 9 months, and most excellent it is too (except for the difficulty of doing accurate searches, which is common to all the classical music streaming services I've used).

I can't help thinking that there will be some major shifts in the streaming ecosystem before it settles down to become a mature market. None of the services is currently making money AFAIK, and it seems to me that of the current players only Apple has the resources to maintain its business model in the medium term.

But you don't want to beat her - and other young female singers - around their heads with cricket bats ...

This should be inscribed onto a cricket bat that is used to beat these warblers around the head everytime a new one appears!

At least - now we have no moderators any more - people have the freedom to express their desire to beat successful young women to death like some gruesome, mysoginistic 'Whack A Mole' fantasy!

Yes, I know, I should 'get a sense of humour' or 'get a life', or whatever a father of two young women is supposed to get when men start joking about beating them to death with bats if they don't like the way they sing.

*lol* haha, must admit I'm sort of guilty in that, although I prefer Rumer. I read something this year about why female vocals usually sound good on music systems, but it isn't necessarily the sign of a good system, ie: female vocals are the easiest to reproduce well. ??

unfortunately I can't remember exactly what it was, so that's all you're getting! =-O

I've always read how they are the hardest to reproduce accurately. And few days ago for the first time I got a proof of this. Because I didn't have my desktop speakers set correctly I was getting occassional clipping from the sound card. Most noticable was with female vocals because they had highest transient peaks or something. The distortion resembled like wobbly gargling noises. And the vibrato sounded off. Just weird.

In 20 years time I'll be very nearly 80 so will have probably forgotten who I like, where my cds are kept, and how to switch on whatever I'm supposed to switch on. I'm concentrating more on making tomorrow to be honest.

So you were playing Katy Perry?

It wasn't the production or your kit that was playing up Vlad.

Who knows chebby, in 20 years time, beating and stoning women to death might be the new Black ?
