Best Digital connection...

I was wondering what is the best digital connection for sound quality, either optical, coax or XLR.

well personally i've alway's thought co-axial over optical, as you havn't got all the conversion going on (i.e electrical to optical/optical to electrical) that you have with an optical cable

If your components allow, XLR. Optical suffers from jitter at its connections and coax suffers from electrical interference. XLR is a studio standard balanced connection which is designed to cancel interference, and because shielding is not necessary much cheaper too. Other than that coax is best over short distances, optical over long - though it's dependent on your electronics whether you'll be able to hear the difference.
