Hi just a quick question. I have pulled a load of beldon 8723 cable out of an old installation. Its 4 core with 2 shielded twisted pairs. Each wire is 0.75mm leaving a 1.5mm pair when 2 wires are twisted together. I plan to use them like this a speaker cable. The conductors are tinned copper. Data sheet states the cable can take 300v RMS but doesn't specify a current handling capacity.

Just wanted to know if there was any reason from a safety point of view why I shouldn't use of his cable as speaker cable? Worried about the wire melting cause it seems a bit thin. If it helps the Amp will be an onkyo 609 and the speakers diamond 9.1's no particular thought gone into this pairing had the speakers already and got the amp for free.

That's going to be much bigger than the wire in the speaker coil...so yes im sure it's fine.

Woo hoo! A reply! Thank you, didn't even consider that. I just looked at a single core and though that is really, really thin. I had just decided to just try it. But nice to have some reassurance. The cable is going to be pulled in through a ceiling so i didn't want to have to pull it out again after I had mounted the speakers.

Thanks again probably a daft question to some but the advice was greatly received.

I think it will be just as good as running Tellurium AQ.

Kevin, bearing in mind that thin bell wire was used as speaker cable, and probably still is in cheap systems, your Belden cable should not be a problem. Are you able to try it before installation, just to check, in case you don't like the sound?
