Hello all,

Not really sure where to post this in the forum but there was a discussion on the PM programme on radio 4 yesterday evening regarding broadcast sound quality that you might find interesting. Lots of discussion on peak levels, dynamic range and compression.

You can find it on the i-player, the programme was broadcast on 17th Feb. The content starts at 26 minutes and 40 seconds and goes on until 33 minutes 12ish.

Enjoy.

Thanks for the link - will definitely try to catch that today at some point.

Cue "I didn't say Today, I said PM" joke (one for the Radio 4 fans out there)!

The BBC use the very best meters, I ought to know cos I used to make them. The one with 2 needles were in house called " Twin Rapid " a very good piece of kit very well damped with no overswing........

Noooo, The company I worked for manufactured instrumentation for a wide range of applications including,

BBC, MOD, Atomic weapons research, Medical, Scientific research, Electrical supply, as well as recording studio's, and believe me a lot of these organisations were very fussy and only wanted the best especially Ministry and scientific applications.......
