Sorry - bit of a newbie question.

I've bought the above used reciever and planned to connect tv/ DVD Player etc to it using digital / analogue audio leads - which seems straightforward.

However - it also has inputs and outputs for video - i.e s video/ composite video / component video.

So, wondered before I start buying cables - why would you route video in this way?

Advice appreciated -thanks

If you are not going to use these sockets just leave them, i wouldn't worry about it they will just remain redundant, they are only their should you choose to use them.

I have just got a new Onkyo 608 AV Receiver and found that the video switching via HDMI to be fantastic. With the power settings on, I just switch on the TV with the Sky+HD remote, the TV and amp come on, the TV sound is switched off and all the video and audio routed through. It is so easy even the other half is happy!!!! We now use the receiver sound for all TV watching where as before it was the occasional Sky movie or blu ray / dvd

Thanks for the advice everyone - I thought that using it for audio only was probably the way to go - although if I upgrade to one with HMDI at some point, I do like the idea of your setup Mark - cheers.
