Atacama Moseco 6 and Kef LS50s

Hi all,

First post and that...nice to meet you all!

I'm in the market for some new speaker stands and I've decided on Atacama Moseco 6's. I'm after a bit of info from anyone who can help regarding the standard top plates. At 130mm wide will there be enough stability for my beloved Kef's as not to not make them lemming at the slightest footstep? Or would it be best to grab the 160mmm top plates?

First things first, welcome to the forum Sam.

Ideally the top plates should be as close in size as possible to the base of your speaker. My top plate is about 20mm narrower than my speaker at the front end, but as the speaker tapers towards the back end, the speaker and top plate are about the same width at the back.

I'm perfectly happy with its stability, although the HMS stands are very heavy, so do augment this.

I'd recommend the gel pads that stick to the top plate. They work very well and are offer sufficient friction to stop the speaker from sliding around easily. I seem to remember that the Moseca stands offer an optional plate to add mass to the base if you're concerned about stability. I'd also recommend filling the stands with Atabites or sand. They increase the stability of the stand but also stop the metal tubes from ringing. You know when you've filled them sufficiently if you tap the tubes with your hand and only hear a dull thud. If the metal rings, then add more filler.

I thought that would be the case, I'll grab a set of the larger top plates. I'd already planned on the atabites but hadn't thought about the mass loading base plate, the ls50s are somewhat weighty so it could be an idea, £30 is better than £350.

I have one word for you. Blu-Tac. Wait a minute. Is that two words? Anyway a little blob of Blu-Tac will stick the speakers to the stand like glue, so much so that when it comes to removing the speakers you'll probably worry that you might pull the veneer off because they're stuck to the stands so well.

Greetings, I recently bought Atacama Moseco 6 speaker stands and I am very pleased with build quality, they are great stands. I also invested in the Atabites and isolation pads despite advice from some members of the forum who recommended Blu Tak and Kiln Dried Sand.

On reflection I should have taken their advice and saved some money. I don't think you would need to buy plates to increase the weight of the stands but perhaps the larger speaker plate may be a good idea.
