My original Arcam Solo (c.2005) is on its last legs, the buttons aren't working, the display is failing and it's been back more than once to Arcam already. It's time for a replacement. I use it in the kitchen, connected to four ceiling mounted B&W speakers.

So, I'm looking for something that does the same job: DAB, CD (optional), 4-speaker but with bluetooth.

I've looked at Amp Receivers (too large), mini systems (too small to power four speakers) and streaming devices (want something not dependent on having a phone on me).

All suggestions welcomed, budget up to £1k.

You could look at the Bluesound PowerNode, which is rated at 70wpc (into two two channels), and use a small switchbox to feed into four speakers. The PowerNode is pretty small, so you’ll be saving a lot of space over the Solo.

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up buying a Yamaha CRXN470D - a mini system with streaming. It was only £229 from Richer and it's terrific - the DAB is miles better than the Arcam Solo and the sound is more than adequate for the kitchen and it powers the B&W speakers easily, plus it has bluetooth and network streaming. Recommended.
