Apple TV direct to DAC or via HDMI to LCD TV then to DAC?

Hi,

I have a Samsung LCD TV, Primare I30 amplifier and an Apple TV. I have previously run my Apple TV to the Samsung LCD via HDMI, then the TV to my amp via phono leads.

I have bought a Musical Fidelity V-DAC with the intention of running the Apple TV to the V-DAC from its optical-out, and then to the amp to improve the sound quality.

However, I am wondering whether I could run the Apple TV to the LCD with just HDMI (as before), then run the LCD to the V-DAC via its optical out. My main concern is to get the best quality out of the Apple TV. Improving the quality from the TV would be a bonus.

Would the digital signal from the Apple TV be impaired by running it via the LCD rather than direct to the V-DAC?

Thanks,

James

i'm gonna take a blind guess, and say theoretically yes, the extra conversion from hdmi to optical inside the tv can only increase jitter.

but, you may not be able to hear any difference. worth experimenting with.
