hope not going to upset anyone here but just keen to hear other readers views on here as to me there was nothing on the list that really wowed me and some pretty old kit to boot, more evolutionary products than revolutionary - i could be in the minority here but just keen to hear people thoughts

The products shortlisted are: AVI ADM9.1, B&W 685, Cambridge Audio DacMagic, Logitech Harmony One, Onkyo TX-SR608, Sonos ZonePlayer S5, Sony BDP-S370 and Sony PS3 Slim.

i guess i was just shocked at the lack of new kit - there was some pretty big things that i feel have missed out logitech touch (my product of the year so far), EB Acoustics EB1 guess the EB2s could be to new, etc

also a few single posters that have just logged on to vote but not contributed anything else to the forums seems strange

So could start a list of the products that missed out so m votes for the logitech touch!

Well, everyone registered for the Forums had plenty of time to nominate, so there's little point quibbling about it now...

not quibbling just interested if others are surprised - my vote was deleted as were others - yes my own fault for missing the 1 item bit but it wasn't highlighted till far later in the thread but thats a different issue and not one that bothers me or that i'm questioning!

no, i didn't mention it in my original post and don't want to get bogged down in that

i was genuinely surprised with all the exotic kit and all the new and exciting products we ended up with a pretty conservative list

or not in the case of this thread

maybe it was to everyone elses expectations - were there no surprises to the what hi fi team?

Anthing you thought had missed out?

Well, all the rest of the awards are joint decisions, but there isn't a separate 'staff award', and I really haven't given any thought to what I would vote for if there were.

well would be nice to know what the staff would have listed as their number ones - could lead to a healthy debate on monday especially if you can only pick one!!!

gel:Looks like much the same as other years to me

there were at least a couple of higher value items last year - and some very new products at the time dac magic, spotify, the adm 9.1 obviously two of these products have been nominated again this year - i guess because of lack of competition still at their price points - iphone and naituniti also offering new technology

new 3d tv this year for example

I think most people cannot afford the more expensive products and if they don't own them or have not seen them i guess you would not vote for them.

Last year the Yamaha DSP-Z7 was an expensive product came in fifth which was quite good considering the price.

3D tv is extremely expensive and not many people are keen on it.

Vastly underwhelmed. A bunch of entry level product aimed at the mass market, with the exception of the ADM 9.1s and most of which has been out for a couple of years or more.

Precisely why I didn't vote for anything. My stuff is all far from cutting edge now and my experience with new stuff is limited.

I felt that voting for something just because I like it was missing the point. It's not a popularity contest.

I think the issue with this is because it is new kit. Being new, not many people own those items yet. Consequently there are not many people that are going to nominate them.

The products nominated are those that users have bought and are impressed with. To be fair the final 8 seems about right after going back over the original thread.

i know what you're saying about new kit but you didn't really need many votes to reach the short list - just 4 and i am sure all the new bits of kit are selling in numbers greater than 4 fair enough not everyone that bought one is a reader on here but i just thought same old same old and nothing then that really inspires me

some of that kit is a good couple of years old and there have been a lot of new products in the last 18 months say as some would have been too new for last year - not sure what it says about us forum readers makes us look like a bunch of entry level kit buyers hardly experts and if you read some of the threads on here about the kit people own it's just far more exciting i feel than what we ended up with. Not all new kit had to be expensive but guess just a lack of competition at certain price points CA for example must be laughing with the dacmagic as still not really had any real competition for last 18 months which is why i guess its done so well. Although if they email all their customers again asking them to vote for it I think they should be dropped from it!

Given that we're currently heavily into Awards judging, unlikely to happen. Anyway, we are Borg, and only have a collective opinion...

Yawn. Can't really vote on this stuff or even get interested in it. Surprised the iphone, ipod didn't make an entrance such is it's penetration.

I think there should be some sort of service award for services like Spotify and We7. This has influenced hifi in much greater ways than the hardware has. Computer music is being accommodated by brands like Linn and Chord Electronics with the removal of cd players and adoption of APTX bluetooth respectively.

It's easy to stay focused on the hardware only, but what about he software?
