David Bowie Narrates Prokofiev's Peter And The Wolf (1978). The music is performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy.

Interesting fact: The album reached number 136 on the US Pop Albums chart.

Just been to my local auction for viewing, and they have some amazing job lots of records. There was Hendrix, Stones, Floyd, Zeppelin, Queen, Jefferson Airplane, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Mountain, etc., but in four separate lots, with the quality items pretty well split between the four. There was one album alone which should raise £100 +, but for the life of me, I can't remember what the name of the band is. All the records and sleeves were in atleast excellent condition, most near mint. The auctioneer told me that the guy who brought them in to sell was just clearing out his attic, and really didn't know the value of what he had, and would probably have let them all go for £20.

Anyway, I think the lots are gonna go well out of my price range (probably £200-£300 a box), so I'll just go as an interested observer, then mug the guy who wins when he goes to load them in his vehicle. *biggrin*

This morning at the auction, I witnessed the madness of record prices. There were 4 lots of around 80 records, and the same guy bought all 4 lots, so around 320 records. I would estimate that in each lot, there were around 10 - 20 records of some value, but there were very few of real value, with most of them being reissues, and not original pressings. If you take into account the auction fees, he paid £2500 in total, and I genuinely think he'll struggle to get his money back. I may be wrong about him being a dealer, he may be a music lover, but I doubt it, and I left the auction feeling very deflated.

Joni Mitchell sleeve isn't great, and the vinyl looks a bit scratched in places, but I thought it was worth a punt for a quid. JJ Cale looks good though, and will probably clean up well.
