Any point in upgrading my aerial cable for sky?

not really sure what your asking. when you say aerial cable do you mean cabling from the sky dish! if so depends what the cable is and what your upgrading to

yeah its just the cable bewteen the dish and the box.

Have just the basic cable the dealer installed.

Looking at some QED quad sheilded stuff on www.futureshop.co.uk

depends what cable the installer used, i'm an installer myself and only use good quality double screened cable(ct100 or pf100) but all to many dealers/installers will use cheaper cable(rg6) which although is double screened is inferior and should be avoided!

so as long as they've used good quality cable, such as the ct100/pf100 as i've mentioned then no i wouldn't bother with the qed it's a waste of money imo. you wont notice the difference.

if however they've used cheapy rg6 then change it, but again i would only change it to the ct100/pf100 as mentioned and not the qed.

btw its easy to tell if its ct100 or pf100 thats been used it'll be printed on it.

Ah excellent. I'll get checking now.

If i have got the cheap stuff installed and I buy some new stuff. Is it just a matter of just changing the cable? as long as i'm careful and don;t move the dish, no setup will need re doing?

yeah as long as your carefull not to move the dish (which you shouldn't,as it should be bolted up nice and tight) just change the cable and you should be fine.

Checked the cable and mine states wf100. that still the good quality stuff?

yeah, its the same spec cable as i use, it's just different manufacturer's use different lettering . so yeah it's quality cable and no need to change it

Don't know if it helps or not but i have recently changed the cabling to the dish as i moved the position of the TV during decorating, i changed to PF100 which i got from screwfix, i also got a blank socket plate and drilled it out so the cables come stright from the LNB, through the plate and to the box without connections, my signal strength and quality seems permanently on about 80-85% which is higher than i had before and get a really good picture.

Yeah that cables made by Webro who make some of the very best cables out there.

Very little reason to change it unless you have a very long cable run.

Dave

Off topic but as you are an installer i wonder if you know of this item.I found it on the site you suggested.

It's an alternative to the normal dish.Apparently it clamps onto the aerial pole, something like this could solve a poosible problem for me.

LX2000 PIPE ANTENNA

never tried or even seen one in the flesh(so to speak) just on websites, have no idea how well they work tbh.

alsone is probably the man to ask about this tbh, he seems to know a fair bit about alternative's to traditional dishes.

if you're after a dish that can be pole mounted, most dishes can be anyway! unless your after the lx2000 coz of planning restraint's of course

well iirc, thats the siamese(twin) cable that is very thin, its "sky approved" but its not upto the same spec as the pf100/ct100/wf100 that most reputable installers use and recommend.

if your getting good signal/picture with no interference wouldn't worry to much, but if you do decide to change it go for the cable i mentioned... if you go for the webro cable (wf100) you can get that in siamese version also so no need to run two seperate cables.

Thank you Dave. I have no problems with interference, I can't however compare picture quality as I have nothing to compare it with (though I am happy with HD content). Would you feel the picture quality would be improved to an extent of it actually being worthwile replacing the cable?

if you've got long cable runs from dish to stb i'd say change it, but if its relatively short runs(upto 20-30m) i wouldn't worry tbh i doub't you'd notice any difference.
