Hello people

Just wondering what size TV i should buy. My main viewing distance is 11ft which I m led to believe is ok for a 46in tv but I also have a chair only 8ft away. Would the 46in tv be too big and when viewing sd (through sky)and the pq be poor? I watch mainly sd for now and have bought a ps3. I m undecided on which tv as I m not sure on the size yet but I ve been looking at the Sony w4500 40 and 46in lcd's, the panny pz81 42 and 46in plasma's and now the 7 or 8 series samsungs 40 and 46in. I suppose the main reason for a new tv is because I ve got a ps3 but my current tv (KD32NX200) is not hd even though i love it. Any advice on size or which of the tv's i ve been looking at would be much appreciated.

Thanks

If I were you I would go for one of the Panasonic Plasma sets seeing as you TV will be supplied by Sky Sd box, I personally find Plasma handles SD far better than LCD with LCD being more pixelated and less natural where the Panasonic PZ80 offers a much more stable and believeible image and also does not suffer with motion problems that are more often than not present on LCD TV's.

As for screen size it is down to personal taste but I have simular viewing distances to you and I have a Samsung 50"" Full HD Plasma and picture is very good on SD but even beter with HD (naturally) with the closest seating position being about 5ft from the screen.

Thanks for the reply. My only concern with the plasma and possibly the samsung (reflective surface) is that my room is quite bright. The tv sits at 45 degrees in the corner with 1 of the walls having a large window. Will this make viewing a plasma difficult?

I find the Anti-reflective coating on my Samsung works brilliantly, even when I have my open fire roaring which is diagnally positioned to my screen I can not see reflection on the screen and only a small one on the actuall frame of the TV which is in no way a distraction. My Samsung also has a feature called Ultra Filter Bright which also combats screen reflection and I know Panasonic uses simular.

In direct comparison to my old Panasonic series 5 Plasma with none of these features the differance is outstanding and should not affect you during sdaytime viewing. A reason some choose LCD over Plasma is they look brighter during daytime viewing but IMHO this looks overblown.

As long as the Tv doesnt get direct sunlight. i live on the sunny? south coast and the plasma is at right angles to a south facing wall with large window. If the sun streams in I shade it by partial closing of one curtain.

Remember, your most serious TV watching is usually in the evening, and in winter, when do we get any sun?
