Just read about the anniversary edition. 5 grand!

A few upgrades plus a chromed leema batch. They certainly know how to cash in :).

Of course they're not the only ones.

Me thinks original Tucana is now best value for money s/h.

I'd also still look at the Perraux I linked to earlier. 2 grand off now.

Agree. The price for brand new Tucana has gone through the roof.

I will readdress your link.

Ta.

Big fan of Creek, but as with the Yamaha I'm not sure it'll give me a big enough upgrade.

If I can find an ex-dem or s/hand Tucana MKII from a dealers that should be the answer. At least a dealer will give some sort of warranty.

Fanthorpes might give you a decent trade-in against a new Tucana, just a thought.

If I get time today I'll give them a call. Cheers Al.

No problem, just that in my experience fabulous trade-in offers are always much less than what you could sell it for privately. You could let them know you are looking for an ex-demo though, you never know. ;-)

Just mailed Fanthorpes. I've suggested I'd be prepared to part-ex any replacement with my Pulse. Just got to wait and see.

I found that as long as you're prepared to buy brand new their trade in prices are very good. Sure it may depend on what you're buying but I've been what I've been quoted in the past it didn't make sense to sell privately. If you're looking for second hand then best to sell on your own. I don't know about ex display.

Been following this thread and must say I'm surprised how much praise your Leema gets. I've read reviews before but there was nothing there that made me think that's the one for me. I haven't heard any Leema amplification and before wouldn't class it as a desirable brand. But now I feel I'm missing out and really want to listen to one to see what the fuss is all about :)

Audio Oasis (Leema dealer) sell both pre-owned and ex-demo gear with warranties. Certainly back last year when I was looking for a new amp, they had a number of Leema amps in the pre-owned section including one or two Tuscana's, and some from the Elements range in the ex-demo section. Unfortunately, there are non at the moment, but it's worth a call to them if you are intersted in waiting a while for a pre-owned or ex-demo to become available.

This thread has got me interested to try one as well - the power amp version and a Hegel funny enough.

But it has to be the original Pulse, not II and III. They never scored as high.

In a blind test of several amps back in 2009 the reviewers used Penguin Café Orchestra to test it. *biggrin* I kid you not.

And there's me thinking Leema was the capitol of Peru.....

Yet another class amplifier to come from Wales.... ;-)

@Vlad

There was never a MKII version. Only a MKI or MKIII. No idea why, even receptionist at Leema was stumped. The only reason I can fathom is because the power amp of the MKI was upgraded a little and it had a Dac on the MKIII.

My Pulse has had its internals revamped with a MKIII. Alledgely, it's closer to a MKIII than a I.

If it's a one off unit, I'd keep it even if I'm getting something else.

Yip, it is a one-off but not out of choice. When I first had the amp the headphone socket was faulty. After Leema returned it the sound quality was noticably cleaner than before. Asked why that might be and Leema told me all the internals (earthing and circuit board) was from the new MKIII as the MKI had been defunct for some time.

Anyway Fanthorpes have only offered me £300 which isn't enough. It's still in mint condition and there's a a little extra boost in SQ.

You did, sir. TBH, I didn't expect anything else.

They said they've spoken to the Leema rep with my request but, understandably, there won't be an answer until after the Bank Holiday.

What value do you have in mind?

Hold your ground and bargain hard....people want to sell stuff....tell them if it's good, they will get a lot of PR on here, with the excellent review they will get!

I would think sold privately I could get double (One owner from new and still looks and sounds the dogs. Original packaging, box, instruction manual and remote).

He did also mention the rep will be looking for either open box or ex-dem Tucana (non-anniversary model) or the new Quasar, which is retailing at 2,995 ish. So if I could get £600 for the Pulse that'll bring it closer to the budget.

I've had dealings with Fanthorpes, Dale helped me get my E470 and took my E350 at a very reasonable price, they will do their best for you, but may not be able to go to what you're looking for.

Good luck

It might be worth a word with nintronics.
They seem to sell literally everything and are very good with trade ins and service in general

I am amazed at the spaghetti thin internal speaker wiring they use on the Tucana 2.

Why would you need thicker gauge for the thermal protection probes? *unknw*

BTW checkout the Anniversary Edition.

I looked at it on my phones 5.5" screen. Is that all it is?

Relieved.
