Here are a couple of albums that have managed to completely take me away with them, meaning i sit and listen to them all the way through, discovering new bits constantly and get a great big grin on my face listening to them (or sometimes really feel the sorrow the artist is attempting to emote).

Roger Waters   Amused to Death

Pink Floyd Animals/Meddle/Wish you were here

Dire Straights Communique/Brothers in arms.

What about anyone else?

I'm going with 'Pink Floyd - wish you were here' as well.

Owh, and not bad either: Tool - 10.000 days

::edit:: I forgot the most important one... Pete Murray 'See the Sun' - I get carried straight into summer when I load that into my player.

They're playing with you. It's a none stop bronco bashing, guns drawn, straw chewing, fiddle wielding hoedown over here. I'd stay put.

Looks like you had a great christmas Pete! Ian McNabb is very underrated in my opinion.

Nightwish - Dark Passion Play. Huge album, in every sense. Greatest range and diversity of music I've ever heard on a single disc. Power, rich, detailed and layered. Listened to it 200+ times and still keep hearing new instruments I've never heard before (yes, I need a better system!) Just a great fusion, both within tracks and across the whole record.

Within Temptation - The Heart of Everything. Slightly more chilled than DPP, but more operatic. Great variety.

Kamelot - Ghost Opera. Bit more power, and the male vocal gives a darker impression. Just the right compliment to the other 2!

Anything by Nick Drake or Jack Johnson, or Everything but the girl. I'm also very partial to a CD by Angus & Julia Stone at the moment. In addition some DJ mixes are pretty good, a few of the Back to Mine Series are pretty good

I absolutely love any Roger Waters and Marilion got me through some great college days, but ones mans meat and all that, I was sooooooooooooo disapointed with Clutching at Straws, and just recently got the first 4 albums out to have a Marilion day on a long drive and it still didn't work for me.

Mr Fish himself though, must still rate it, as the Marilion 'nut' I work with, saw him recently and he did most of the Album.

It just seems lyrically weaker and as an albums doesn't gel togther.

This is isn't a critism, but I am fascinated that 'fans' have such varying opinions.

I also love Jenifer Warnes -Famous Blue Raincoat (in genaral I own very little female vocalists)
