Aesthetic System matching

Leaving outright SQ to one side, what would you call a visually sympathetic, pleasing match?

I'll make a start with two systems, one high end the other affordable;

D'Agostini Momentum Series & Avid Reference Series speakers & SME series turntable.

Cyrus system & Neat Acoustics Iota Series speakers & Rega Series turntable.

Over to you

I'd find room for the d'Agostino amps and the SME but the Avid speakers are ghastly. David Wilson or sonus faber would be my preference.

Much as the compact Cyrus should appeal I've always thought them rather tacky I'm afraid. The Neats are, er, neat enough, though hardly stylish. Rega is ok but not as nice as my Michell.

Generally most separates from the same manufacturer look good together. I'd be with you re Cyrus if they didn't look quite so low end. Inverting the display would make such a difference. And dump the silver options which look like something from Agros made from cheap moulded plastic. My black C2+PSX look to be from an entirely higher class of separates, despite the fact they were distinctly budget compared to the price of modern Cyrus kit.

I think you need to go to specsavers :)

Having said that, this was always going to be subjective.

However, what is your idea of a nice match, more to the point?

The Gyro is nice but a) is to big and b) to fussy visually imho to fit the system in question.

A Moon or Leema system would look imho nicer with it.

As I said it's difficult to choose. Most components from the same manufacturer look great together. Sadly there are aways exceptions of course....

Whoever made the agricultural-looking 303 power-amp wasn't on talking terms with whoever made the gorgeous 33 pre-amp FM3 tuner.

Depends what kind of visual statement ýou wish to make - some very interesting shapes and designs out there ... and there are some genuinely aesthetically pleasing and affordable lifestyle systems e.g. Electrocomaniet EC Living series.

Not all matching components look good ... Mcintosh, Burmester and homebrew / garden shed British hifi can look awful.

How about Pathos Endorphine, Devialet Le400, Kronos Sparta and Wilson Benesch Discovery 2.

A bit showy maybe? but all beautiful and interesting designs.

Can we do digital or has it got to have a turntable?

Hi end would love to own a dCs Scarlatti rack for the digital side and something from Soulution for the amp side, or even a Bel Canto Blak rack. Turntable would have to be the AirForce One.

Cheaper system, I'd have to have a serious think but it would include an origin live turntable.

I am in the oil business but I am not a Saudi sheik, so its got to be a substantial lottery win. :)

Nagra, Auralic, Marantz, Creek, Accuphase and there's brand which I forget, it has 3 letters, and lately they made some half-width black boxes of cuteness, but I forget the name. 3 innitials, green or yellow writing.

Martin Logan and ATC speakers.

VPI Traveller and Inspire Hifi Monarch or fully modded Technics.

Please list the cables you'd choose - from a purely aesthetic standpoint, of course. Do you go for fat and blingy, or understated and easy to tuck out of the way?

I'd have to go with a Unison Research S8 teamed with Sonus Faber Cremona Auditor M's. Obviously not from the same manufacturer, but both have a synergistic Italian style that work together. Beautiful craftsmanship and aesthetics coupled with great sound.

Im very lucky to have both of these. Even mrs Loop approves.

As an alternative, I'd go with Mark Levinson or dCS Vivaldi
