Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could help me with some questions. Now before I start, I am not technically minded about TVs and the lingo that goes with it so please be basic in explaining :) Basically, I am buying a Samsung LE40A656 LCD TV and want to know whats the best possible setup I can do with my older xbox360 (which has no HDMI socket in back) ? I have seen these MONSTER CABLES ( i think thats the name of them) but I have no idea which is the best one to go for or do I just use my exsisting XBOX360 cable that came with the system and switch the flick switch to HDTV ? Any advise would be greatly thanked. Paul.

Paul,

I've got a Samsung LCD and xbox360 as well and use the component cables that came with the console to link it up; a mate has his connected via HDMI thanks to some sort of converter he found. I honestly don't notice the difference between his and mine, although I think that may change if you have the HD-Drive for the xbox that allows you to play HD-movies - then you may want to find a HDMI converter. Can't tell you about the cable's I'm afraid - it's not something I think I'll ever do! ;o)

guess the internal upconversion on the 656 is good enough when using component cables.thats the tv I'd buy .

I use the Monster cable for my 360 and find it's a worthwhile improvement over the standard machine. I'm buying new TV myself specifically for the 360-if you have any opinions on the Samsung it would be appreciated.

I'm not 100% on the Monster cable upgrade personally - the official one from Microsoft is about £30 which means it's either a horrendous rip off or it's quite a good cable. I use this switched to HDTV mode and it looks very good so I've never bothered to upgrade. From my own upgrades in other cable formats, I think the Monster will look better, but not that much better so I guess it depends on your priorities.
