I have been playing music on the Denon and found it decent enough. However, my girlfriend is not so keen. I've already spent a fair whack on my home cinema system. Would the Marantz make such a difference in CD quality. I have the Sony STR-da1200es av receiver and Jamo A10 speakers. Please be brutal!

You want to spend money on a new cd player and blame your girlfriend for it?
Shame on you ;)
Probably the Marantz will sound better though I haven't heard both.

I did a direct comparison of the Denon DVD1930 with the cheaper Marantz CD5001, and the Marantz was clearly better at playing CDs. Now the fact that the WHF reviewers are saying that the DVD1940 sounds worse than the DVD1930, and the Marantz CD6002 is obviously much better than the CD5001, I dare say that you would hear a huge difference between the two.

Thanks hifikrazy.

So do you think that the cd6002 would work ok with my receiver and speakers? The speakers are a 5.1 surround package. The front pair offer 60-80w. I just don't want to splash out on the cd player and to end up disappointed. I know that dvd players aren't designed for cd's but the Denon plays SACD's and has a separate input for cd/sacd. Did the 1930 have that? The way I read the article it sounded like the sound from the dvd wasn't as good as the 1930. To be honest though, as you can probably guess, I am a novice!

Personally, I feel that with your Sony AV Receiver and the Jamo 5.1, you don't really need the CD6002. And yes, the 1930 has the same outputs as the 1940. The changes were mostly internal.
