Adventures in upscaling

I recall a piece in WHF many years ago about upscaling, which tested different ways - using the player, amp and screen/projector's built-in upscaling. Apart from at the highest end, it recommended upscaling as close to the disc as possible.

My Blu ray is a few years' old (OPPO UDP203) and my screen is a 2020 model, I believe. Trying it, the upscaling on the TV seems a little better with blu ray - better at handling a screen full of motion, a bit more natural and a heightened sense of depth.

Anyone else tried this, or have any thoughts?

If you want the best, get yourself a Lumagen http://www.lumagen.com/ with 18Gbs inputs and outputs, it will put any on-board scaler to shame (It also has Darbee if you like that sort of thing) and can be fine-tuned (Professional calibration recommended) to get the best out of any display and source.
