I think many DACs provide similar performance only on optimum conditions, with clean current and no source jitter. When these conditions are not met, performance varies greatly. The Behringer UCA202 is powered from the USB port of the computer and does not re-clock the signal, so it will probably be very sensitive to the source.

That is a reasonable assumption but does not seem to be an issue in practice. I have intalled them on occasions and they have worked well, though I have to admit they have been in modest playback systems.

I am not suggesting that this little unit is state of the art, but it is much better than you might imagine and in the context of budget/mid-fi setups it makes a lot of sense.

+1 for the Behringer UCA202.

Don't be put off by the low price, it has great sound quality.
