Your needs can never be definite and final. Another true 4K service may come along which is only available through a media player and not through your TV's apps. 4K is an emerging market and competition will only increase.
no dolby vision on any of the 4k players, great. i dont fancy upgrading the blu ray player for when dolby vision does come out for them.

So what about a current 4k tv with a media player app already built in then BB? it will not upscal 1080p to 4k from what i can see, but will it play native 4k mp4 or mkv files?

It's digital information so it shouldn't matter. There's no mention of blu ray players supporting it here:nugget2014 said:

My understanding is all 4K TVs upscale pictures to 4K, otherwise the picture won't occupy the whole screen, only the centre 25%.f1only said:

Not a good idea to buy a first generation player anyway. In the rush to bring them into the market, corners will be cut.
