Ok BB thx for that appreciate it for the 4k... any ideas about MKV files are there different varieties ? I only ask as had a few problems with them recently on my tv as some seem to play ok & others dont

That's going to depend on what is in the MKV which is only a container. Most (if we are talking BD rips) will be H264 plus one of several audio codecs but typically AAC or AC3 for best compatability and there are not many H265 players and even fewer TVs which will decode H265 natively although more a question for the computer based media forum. plus you can have the audio passed through to avoid transcoding bottlenecks depending on your set up.
