dim_span:mains cables r us:JoelSim:dim_span:JoelSim:Er you could start by looking at the reviews section above. I gather all the WHF testers are either deaf, deluded or on the take as they can hear significant differences too.
Hmmmm ... after reading the SHB review, The Gotham review and the Tacima review, I'm not so sure anymore .... that's why I included the 'independant' reviwers

None of those reviews surprised me in the slightest.

hey joel

I think I put a Nordost ECO 3 wipe in with your vishnu, now that should stir up a hornets nest, the ECO 3 wipe is supposed to improve system performance by removing static form the surface of your cables, how about that then!

and Gordon Brown was supposed to solve the world's economic problems ....

Gordon Brown is a toad, always has been, always will be.

On another, similar, note. I listen to my current speakers with grilles off as it affects the sound. My last speakers I listened with them on as it made no difference. Cables, like anything else are completely dependent on what kit you have, what you want to achieve, synergies etc etc.

It really annoys me that people dismiss stuff as snake oil when they haven't even tried things, it's like me saying that M&S bras are rubbish because my mate Dave told me. How the hell am I supposed to be able to have a valid opinion on them.

I have also tried many cables, some were poor, some were good in my personal situation. And I agree that £500 is an awful lot of money to spend on a mains cable, and no I currently wouldn't pay that because I can make bigger differences elsewhere, but the £74 I spent on a Nordost Shiva was money extremely well spent.

mains cables r us:

Guys, you may be interested to know that Gordon Brown is number 1 in the worlds worst disasters league, £300 billion he has cost since he came into power, that's more than the Exxon Valdez clean up, The Challenger space shuttle, Piper alpha and everything else.

Now back to cables before I nod off.

wait till the 24th of this month .... another stockmarket crash? ... In 15 months or so, Gordon Brown has more than doubled the UK national debt ... Retail sales are at their worst ... Fitch credit rating is considering downgrading UK from AAA to AA .... Greece is bankrupt .... Ireland and Portugal to follow suit? .... Cameron is rubbing his hands will use this to his advantage for the elections ... may get dirty

There has been a persistent run on sterling in the last few days and UK bonds have been falling sharply

ever wondered why the UK never opted for the Euro?.... because now they can print money 'Zimbabwe' style ... as much as they want... to cover up, but eventually it catches up

anyway .... bed time

well , i appreciate that many of you guys on here have high end hifi , a.v. systems , and have been interested in hifi for many years , so i wouldnt dream of telling you that your cables do or do not make a difference to you , that would be rediculous , as i have never heard your systems , and i could maybe see how good quality cables may make a worthwhile difference to people with a top setup , i buy that..

what does mystify me though , is how one person can see huge differences between hdmi cables , and another sees none using the same ones??

but im all ears ...

Ah you see if you only use ears you won't see the differences. You may hear them, though...

i knew it

Andrew Everard:Oh, now you're bold...
certainly puts a different slant on things

maxflinn:

i am trying to spark debate , so please all join in , i have seen many threads lately where we all have to tippy toe around , not wanting to hurt peoples a.v. feelings , well this is my thread , and anyone can say what they want , so there ...

shrink or cable ???????????????????????

A) If your system warrants that expense.

B) A check-up from the neck up is also advisable.

I think I stepped into a parallel universe.

Quick somebody, unplug me from the mains.

So, you start the thread on power cables and end on HDMI.????

Right my ten penneth:-

1. Any cable will act as an aerial (its what we used to do with black andwhite tv's etc remember coathangers??)

2. If you shield any cable correctly, you can minimise this interference

3. Delicate electronics can pick up on interference, hence the need for Sy and CY shielded control cable.

4. Correct shielding of mains cables also stops them from inducing a current (albeit small) in Interconnects etc, as proved by Faradays law and lenz law.

5. You get what you pay for. Mass produced rubbish or hand assembled cables. Yes the parts dont cost that much but the R&D and the hand making are not free.

The above applies to any cable, power, interconnect, HDMI.

mains , hdmi , whatever , i dont believe in the remarkable differences people claim with either , small differences ?, maybe , but some of the words used to describe the differences one hdmi cable makes on , lets say a tvs picture , over another , i just dont buy ...

England 9 Foreigners 0 this week, nice.

Roll on the World Cup. I have an accumulator on 14 matches in the first week, £5. Will win £49k if it comes in. And if it does I shall treat myself to a £500 mains cable...

By the way can anyone suggest a good, cheap HDMI cable that will bend around a wall easily?

Not massively worried about it, just need something that bends. If I do that I will gain some brownie points off the missus as I will be able to hide it. Currently have a 3m Chord.

Might be worth looking at the WireWorld flat HDMI cables, though I am still traumatised by the UK distributor coming up to me at a show and saying 'I want to show you something' then appearing to undo his belt - which was of course the flat cable...

It may work with some reviewers, I guess...
