Used to listen to New Order in the past. Just going through some of their works again.
What's to notice is that their earlier works with the album Substance at its peak seem to be mixed mainly with headphones in mind.
Real creative music but lots ot tracks lack a bit of grounding in loudspeaker playback. Loads of reverbial effects, vocals often seem to be a little overplayed by the instruments. A bit sloppy.
But played back on headphones gives an effect of being surrounded and things connect better.
These things and how horribly they were live in the 80s (flipped 180 degrees in the 90s and early 2000 with Billy Corgan producing 1 album) all add up to the imperfections of which the creativy of the band makes up for and what gave them a bit of a cult status.
