Hi,

I've been looking to buy the Yamaha yhts400 for a while but have been struggling to find one in any shops close, so went looking on the internet and found the above mentioned system, which is the s400 with the yamaha bds1065 Blu Ray player bundled in for £80 quid more than the cheapest I can find the s400 on it's own.

Basically what I'm wondering is if the Blu ray player is worth the extra as it didn't get a great review at it's price point but that was the main gripe about the player. I currently use PS3 for all movie watching.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Hi,

I can't fully remember the review but didn't it say that it was no better than a cheaper player, that was at a much higher price. Worth mentioning that somethings suit some kit more than others. My Panny BD player works great with my Philips TV but not quite as smooth when i use with my PJ, where my PS3 is better.

Personally at £80 i would take the chance. That player costs considerably more than £80 and if it doesn't suit- sell it. Would assume that the sound would be a good match as Yamaha has clearly linked the kit together. As always worth trying to get a demo but at least if you do get it you can make a good 'side by side' comparison with you're trusty PS3. Make sure you re-calibrate your screen settings for new player though to get it looking its best.

Any chance you could feed back on the 'virtual surround' performance of you're YHT- 400, i am waiting for the release of the YSP-2200 but it is twise the price so very interested.

Richer sounds do list the Yamaha if you have one nearby.

Kind Regards,

Thanks Cookie Monster,

Will probably take the plunge and hope for it to be delivered over the weekend so I can set it all up. My TV is currently sat towards a corner so I'm not sure how the virtual surround will perform from it's position, just wanted improved sound in general rather than surround. I was very tempted by the YSP2200 when I read about it a couple of weeks ago, but I think the current position of my TV will render the Virtual surround rather useless, sop not worth the extra outlay.

I have considered re-positioning everything to get a full 5.1 system going but my laziness outweighs my desire for decent surround sound.
