Yamaha RX-V765 Amplifier not recognising Dolby or DTS inputs via HDMI

I am new to all this so please bear with me, I have a Yamaha RX-V765 AV Receiver and have connected my upscaling sony dvd player and Ps3 via hdmi, the amp does not seem to recognise either 5.1 or 7.1 signals when put on straight and only works the front left, right and centre speaker all the speakers work when using the systems sound field programmes. I have set the DVD and ps3 to output in what seemt the appropriate manner but still no joy, any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.

The PS3 decodes the HD but outputs as PCM, so it will not show ad HD on amp but will on TV display fof PS3.

If you attach a standard Blu-Ray player and set it to decode on amp the it will show HD. This is a limitaion of the PS3 on the phat models at least.
