That's nuts to spend so much when it's missing essential features, with the promise to add them later. Wait and see how the features are implemented first.

Firmware 1.73 is out now so it’s a fully fledged HDMI 2.1 AVR now. It’s also probably one of the best all round AVR’s. You’ll have to buy something like the Arcam AVR 31 if you want to properly upgrade from it, although Arcams software and system stability is a huge downgrade from this and probably any other AVR.

To all who care This the response from Yamaha Australia on the 2 last features missing from this receiver
Thank you for contacting Yamaha Music Australia.
Denon dont seem to have an issue in there Amps.
Once again paid for items that were promised and never delivered.

As stated on the product page:

"YAMAHA initially intended to support QMS (Quick Media Switching) within the HDMI 2.1 specification. However, YAMAHA later discovered that these models cannot be updated to support QMS via firmware. This is due to an unforeseen hardware limitation caused by QMS specification change in HDMI 2.1a. This hardware limitation affects current AV receivers, including Yamaha."

This was due to an issue with the manufacturer supplying the chipsets. As all manufacturers use the same chipset supplier, it means all brands are affected.

We apologise for any inconvenience.

Regards,

Yamaha AV Sales Support
