Hi,

I'm new on here and have spent many hours wondering which would be best for me considering Yamahas perfect reliablility record and having used Yamahas for over 20 years!

I have narrowed it down to the Yamaha RX-A3040 or the Anthem MRX510?

Your views are very welcome on what you would go for?

Thanks.

You mean Yamaha 2040 or 3040?

I owned a Yamaha RXV 1900 for 5 years. When I demoed the Anthem MRX510, it was a significant step up over the Yamaha. Anthem's ARC is one of the best in the industry. You should demo both to compare.

What speakers have you got?

I have Monitor Audio Silver 8's as fronts with the Silver centre and FX with a Rel S3 sub.

Yes I meant the 3040 compared to the Anthem 510. I know the Yamaha is super reliable but don't know much about the Anthems yet!

Anthem makes some of the best AV receivers in its class, better than Yamaha I would say. Why not Anthem MRX710 which is more in line with Yamaha RX-A3040 in terms of price?

Thank you for that review, I hadn't seen that one before for some reason.

I suppose I thought the 510 was good enough and was even considering the 310 as a money saving idea. Ok, I think i'll go for the Anthem 510 as the 710 is out of my price range and i'll bite the bullet and leave Yamaha *cray2*

Feels like leaving home for the first time!

Thanks again 'bigboss' for your time in replying *good*

I used to have a Yamaha 2020 and replaced it with an Anthem 710. The Anthem sound is bolder and I found the Yam a bit too polite thought it had better features.

I ended up going for the Yamaha 3040 without listening to either simply because I think I didnt really want to know if the Anthem sounded better as my gut feeling knew the Yammie was so reliable. I figure that unless I had them side by side, id never know the difference anyhow.
I dont think im gona be too dissapointed with it.

Isn't 3040 similarly priced as Anthem 710? Then why was 710 out of your budget?

Reading back through the thread, the impression I get is the OP was always going to buy the Yamaha as it is his familiar brand, safe option. If he likes it then why change to something of an unknown quantity - especially if he isn't going to demo any options?

In that case, I'm not sure why he started this thead! I haven't heard Anthem myself, but I know some dealers who have Anthem and rate them highly. And I speak as a man who owns three Yamaha receivers, the best one being the RX-A2010.
