Sorry to keep asking the same question again and again but everyone is
very vage with this and I'm looking for the receiver that supports HDMI
upscaling (to upscale sky via hdmi). I was listening to Pioneer LX51
(which upscales hdmi inputs) but Pioneer was far too bright for my
speakers, so I'm looking for alternatives.

No it doesn't. Yamaha RXV3900 and Yamaha Z11 does upscale HDMI.

Luckily your Pioneer TV will upscale any input as least as well as a receiver, so it isn't really an issue. ÿYou have the luxury of choosing on SOUND quality alone. ÿI send signals untouched through my Yamaha receiver (3800) to my 4280XD - PQ for SD channels and DVD is as good as it can be.

When you say Sky, do you mean Sky HD? If so, then no you will just get 1080i. However, if you are talking about normal Sky, you could connect to your receiver using S Video and the receiver will upscale through the hdmi to your screen, to 1080p.

I mean Sky HD watching SD channel. When I connect this via HDMI even if channel is SD will it come as 1080i?

upscale is to take a 570p image and upscale it to 1080p (for example) up convert is to take a component input and out put it via the HDMI cable at the same resolution.

Some recivers will do both.

Just set the Sky+HD box to 'Auto', pass the signal through the receiver and let the TV do the work. ÿYour Pioneer will upscale the SD channels as well as all but the most advanced receiver.

I've been playing with my PS3 upscaling trying to compare this to my Pioneer TV.. and I must say that although marginally in my opition PS3 upscaled picture looks better than when I send not upscaled DVD signal to my Pioneer. I think this is true especially when I tried the older movie.

I would hope that Yamaha upscaler is better than PS3 although probably not as good as Onkyo 875. Would that be correct?
