Worth Upgrading V-DAC to V-DAC II?

Hi guys,

I wonder if anyone out there has upgraded from the MF V-DAC to the V-DAC II? I've just put my V-DAC on eBay (item number 180935150967, if anyone's interested!), but now I'm having second thoughts.

I'm not at all dissatisfied with the V-DAC. In fact, I love it! 99% of my music library is CDs ripped to FLAC. What are the chances I'll even notice any improvement "upgrading" to the V-DAC II?

Other equipment involved includes: Win7 netbook, NAD C 326BEE, and Mission M73s.

I've had both the V-dac and V-dac II. The V-dac II sounds better than the first one. The music sounds more controlled and tight.

I now have the musical fidelity m1 dac which sounds incredible to say the least.

If you can spend a litte bit more money........buy the M1 dac is my advice. The M1 is a real improvement on the first v-dac you have

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I think the M1 is a little out of my price range right now (~£300 vs ~£100 to upgrade).

Don't bother upgrading at all, do what I did, sell your dac( I sold my V expensive Theta) and bought a £200 Beresford Bushmaster.

Without doubt it is the best upgrade you could do without spending mega bucks!

Many people at other fora are of the same opinion as me, including one guy who has had more dacs than most of us have had hot meals, and he rates it as highly as the most expensive dac he has ever owned, and that had a price north of £2k !

Thanks for the opinion! But I think the Beresford doesn't work for me: no USB input.

As it happens, this question is now moot (for me): I upgraded to the V-DAC II. I got a decent price for the V-DAC, so I'm happy.

Personally I don't think there are any audible differences, comparing the two revisions of the V-Dac.. However, the latest version has asynchronous USB mode, which is considerably better than adaptive so if computer audio is your thing, you should definitely upgrade.

How many inputs do you need? Try the Epiphany 02 and have a read of its design concept.

Do you have an Epiphany Overdose? If so how does it compare to your DacMagic?

I offered the Epihany out of design principle and concept. Never heard the thing, but the measurements look good and it is very well priced.

My DACmagic is fine, does what it's supposed to do and doesn't seem to add or detract anything to or from the music. I have compared it with a couple of pro audio interfaces and some CD/DVD players, a DIY DAC in various forms and an old P4 Pc.

Very little difference between the lot of them and seemingly none in most. If I bought another DAC, it wouldn't be for improvements in sound quality, but features, build quality and aesthetics.

Probably not the sort of view that many want to hear, but I've little time for scrutinising every last tiny nuance that may or may not be a trick of my imagination. I just want my equipment to work.

I'm saving my money for now for some new monitors.
