8 Khz only I'm afraid, aged 55.

Knackers yard for me.

Try it with your SR80i headphones*, when the room is quiet, and you may be pleasantly suprised.

*If you haven't already.

15kHz for me as a 41-nearly-42 year old, so I guess that's about average. When I was under 25 I could hear right up to 24kHz.

Am 48, can hear up to 10khz and have decided that the tannnoy supertweeter upgrade is maybe not such a good idea to pursue after all.

OK, it's hardly scientific but the point i'm triying to make is that over time our hearing definitly degenerates and must make a diferance to how we percieve sound quality.A 15 year old must have amazing hearing if not taste! i'm 41 so probably 14khz is normal
I'm the same age as you Chunky70 and i can't hear above 14khz.

46 here and could only hear up to 12. Not really surprising as i have tinitus so that probably overwhelms anything higher 🙁

16kHz for me... I'll try again later when it is quieter and use my headphones to see if I can get to 17. I hope I can :/

How possible is it to reclaim some of the lost Hz? Does sticking ear plugs in for most of the day give the ears a chance to recover and regain sensitivity? Might make an interesting experiment...

mid 30's

Certainly nothing like I could hear as a 12 year old

Can definitely hear 19kHz

Not sure if I'm fooling myself on 20kHz.

I might do better if I played it back on something better than my netbook.

Damn. Tried it on hi-fi and it is still a clear loud tone upto and including 16 and then high pitched noise after. So I'm 16khz @ 32 years.

Also tried it on family and they can hear 12 khz @ 60 years.

Ah but HiFi isn't a hearing test, it's about getting closer to the sound of what the artists played and recorded. An improvement is an improvement. I see no reason why you wouldn't notice the benefits 🙂

Went to see Journey live about a week ago at the NEC and swear I could hear my hearing being affected during rather than just after as it used to - might just be getting old!

to all, if you are worried about your hearing are you actually doing anything to protect it?

I never go to a gig anymore without my earplugs. I dont care what i look like especially when i have invested so much in a hi-fi system i want to be able to enjoy for many years to come. I do find that when attending heavy metal gigs/concerts i can hear things a lot clearer when i have my ear plugs in... anyone else experience this?

Funny you should say that. When I used to make pro speakers, I used to literally jam my index fingers tightly into my ears and then put my head right up against the cabinet with it running at about 400 watts and, like your earplugs, you can hear eveything but your ears are still protected.
