WIFE HAS KILLED MY BLU-RAY is it worth fixing

Sorry been a while since in last posted any thing!
My wife has killed my Pioneer BDP-51fd bluray The machine was loaded with an upgrade disc that i made . The information on this disc was a firmware upgrade from the manufacturer, which was loaded successfully two years ago. My wife started to play this disc by accident and realised it wasn't what she thought it was and stopped the disc. Now the machine will only switch on or off and do nothing else. This has i assume confused the machine's brain.
I have just got a please wait message on the screen
I had the player from Richer Sounds they have say they will look at it for £40 and then if it needs further money spending on it they will contact me, but is it worth doing this or just get a new one. if so which one . Music play back is important to me as i have no room for a CD player and Home Cinema.
The pioneer was at the time raved about for it music playing qualities.

There's a big test of six Blu-ray players in the new (September) issue of the mag, on sale now. The Sony BDP-S790 is the winner, good with music as well as movies, although of course any Blu-ray player will be a compromise on music playback compared to a dedicated CD player.

Actually my machine is just showing "Power On" and please wait comes up if i press anything.
Been to see my dad's neighbour tonight, he has advised me to leave the machine on for a while as it may sort its self out: but i did tell him i was showing please wait not power on. If that doesn't work he says the RAM is probabley done for
. His line of work is computers and gadgets etc and he say there is a chance he may be able to repair it :clap:
Must try a few things before throwing it away, so all suggestions are welcome.

Just a thought, but these may get some response.
Look online to see if there is a combination of buttons that can be pressed at start up. This will give you a hard reset of everything. Most pieces of kit have this... see Sky boxes/Android phones as examples. This will start the basic boot sequence and possibly some choices. Your computer friend should be able to see what to do, usually you can tell the machine to boot from the disk or perform a factory reset, it will also tell you if the RAM is toasted. I can't see why it would be though.
If you can get the drawer open, put in the disk, the machine may be looking for it to finish the routine. It may finish off and be OK.
Don't pay anything out, not worth it.

- No reset button anywhere, Update disc is trapped in the machine. Even looked underneath the machine, also cannot get the drawer open.
At the back there looks to be a input socket of some kind but that is not listed in the manual I bet that the service input .

Had a try with those... no luck i'm afraid .
Found Fixya last night and had a good go with the possible solutions on there, a good site though will remember that for next time.

i also have that blu ray player BDP-51FD it's so slow at loading i suprised i haven't lanched it out the window. no big loss it's a blessing, i'm looking foward to the day i get rid of mine.
I'll keep the the wife - much more expensive to change one of the those than a blu-ray player i'm told!!!

Already eyeing the new Sony BDP-S790 at £250, Panasonic DMP-BDT500 at £299, also the reduced Denon DBP-2012UD at £450 and DBP-1611UD at £299.
Thoughts on the above very welcome bearing in mind picture quality, movie sound and stereo sound are important to me, NOT CONNECTIVITY.
