The catch being 99% of them use open source linux based stuff, they tend to just slap their own front end on, sometimes that front end is a customised open source anyways, so very little in the way of nuts and bolts stuff going on for them to do.

Two years ago we bought a Yamaha R-N602 stereo receiver. It's the hub of our stereo system. It sounds excellent in our living room and is incredibly easy to operate. Our whole CD collection has been ripped to ALAC files on a Mac Mini which is in an another room. We can use an iPad or an iPhone as a remote control for iTunes. The Yamaha does Airplay so we stream directly from the Mac Mini to the Yamaha.

I'm sure there are better (more expensive) solutions but if you're looking for a neat looking hub that handles analogue (record player), digital and streaming very well I can recommend a solution like the Yamaha. The more expensive Yamaha R-N803D has even better specs.
