Hello all, at present I have a bit of music on my laptop (about 60Gb), later this year I am planning to buy sonos. So with that upgrade in mind it sort of rules out a USB Hard drive as I want access to my music with the computer off.

What I require is secure storage twin 1tb mirrored drives that are compatible with I tunes and sonos. Dont mind a little noise as server will be in a seperate room to my HIFI. Also I would like (if required) the option in future to simply replace the 1tb drives for larger if and when required. I would like the Nas (software) to automatically backup three laptops when they connect to the Home network.

Think I have narrowed my options down to the two below:-

Western Digital 2TB My Book World Edition II / Network Attached Storage NAS External Hard Drive

or

Buffalo LinkStation Duo 2 TB NAS Drive 1 TB x 2 Hot Swap Hi Speed USB, RAID 0,1 & Gigabit Ethernet
Has anyone any expereience or advice as to which should suit my needs better.

Many thanks

Both should suit you well. I was in the same dilemma few months ago when I invested in my Sonos........ultimately went for the Western Digital because, from what I read, transferring data onto Western Digital was much faster than Buffalo. (actually, the main reason was that the Western Digital was much better looking than the Buffalo

I have the WD NAS box. It's small, quiet (fanless) and well designed. Sits silently on the network router attached by powerline ethernet to router, so is easily accessable and reasonably quick to read by PS3 and 3 Squeezeboxes. Although intial copying across network took a while.

Recommended.
