Hey, lets not forget these are top quality 2d tvs as well for similar money to last years comparable models that had no 3d !! If you are someone who is replacing your tv this year you would be a fool to overlook it, i think a lot of the sceptics bought a tv 6 months ago and have to knock it rather than spend more money and buy into it, just as some people did when HD tv came out.

Well im very impressed with the sony kdl40hx803,its a stunning tv..in both 2d and 3d...customer feedback has been very positive..and we have sold a fair few..based on demo's i have given.the glasses are very nice to wear..and i also wear glasses.I was a little put off by putting the 3d glasses on over my glasses, but you dont even know that you are wearing them after a few mins. You are just taken in with the content you are watching. Also got the sky 3d preview up and running today as well..its all looking very good.Granted its not going to be for everyone, but i think people who have not viewed it...reserve judgement untill you have.

Grant, do Sony TVs suffer from 3D crosstalk?

When I tried Panasonic's 3-D specs at Best Buy, they were held together with elastic bands and gaffer tape. Then the sales fella showed me a desk-drawer full of mangled Panasonic 3-D gogs.

Panasonic's new mantra: Every Expense Spared.

The wise choice , if you really dont need new tv right now , IMO is to wait a few longer ... (for all the reasons posted before)

From my experience so far 3d still needs some tweaks (talking about my personal experience - especialy with samsung plasma)
but its good to have a company altough not the king and knowed to have the best Tv's but once in a while realeases some FW update to really fix problems or improve settings. .. so in usa already have the fw that is said to improve 3d experience still waiting (europe ) for it , so far 3d has depth and immersive but slitty cross talk , glasses very confortable , and yes Max the pana glasses i demo were not that confortable and hurt point of nose (i guess its the material or something like that ) pana could resolve that easly

Havent tested sony or lg glasses yet so wont comment ..

daveh75:bigboss:Look at it this way............if TVs this year have come so close to the Kuro, there should be a TV next year that may actually beat the Kuro hands down.

The same thing was being said last year

True. In fact Pioneer themselves predicted 2010 to be the year when we should see a TV that's better than the Kuro (did they anticipate Panasonic "Kuros"?). Some reviewers have claimed the Panasonic VT20 to be better than the Kuro, but I want to see more consistent reviews on that. No TV (apart from the Kuro) I can remember has been hailed as the very best by almost all the reviewers.

i think its fair to say the kuro is generally still considered to be the best , but only just ,the vt20 is cheaper than the kuro was , and has 3d too ,but if the kuro was still being made , it would be difficult to choose between the two for me ...

i think with the current tech , were reaching the point where improvements are going to be touted/spoken about far more than they are actually going to be noticed ..

For me the Sony wins hands down on the glasses and I must say I thought the 3D was easier to watch, less flicker than the Panasonic.

They actually predicted (and this was when they pulled out of the market) that it'd take until 2010 for anyone to match the Kuro. And as the Formula 1 commentary cliche goes: "catching is one thing, overtaking is another"

But you've got to remember that if Kuros had been sold at anywhere near the price they cost to develop, they would have been beyond the reach of all but the serious enthusiast.

Some of today's TVs challenging Kuro quality are at around the same price (or less) than the Kuro once sold for. Well, apart from Toshiba's forthcoming CELL TV, which is going to be premium product (with a premium premise.)....

Still gonna hold out for OLED to be the next big jump I think, perfect blacks, perfect whites - just need to get the processing right and you're set! Be interesting to see how a larger one handles standard-def and movement. I saw a 20" or so Sony at last years CES and it looked very nice but again showing mainly slow panning shots of pretty pictures... I do like the idea of a totally flat screen though, makes wall-mounting more akin to hanging a picture than a room rebuild. Annoyed that the new house is totally wired top to bottom for wall-mounting and all wiring channelled in, but the very efficient guy I bought from filled and painted all the holes perfectly - d'oh!

In terms of being comfortable and feeling nice on, it would have to be the Sony ones for me

I have checked all the major manufacturers for 3d tv's and also looked at comfort of their glasses so far (Samsung, Panasonic, Sony) I will say the most comfortable were the Sony's ones, then Samsung and then Panasonic. However as my research continued as i was in the market to buy a tv, Some in press and users were panning the panasonic 3d glasses for it's comfort, and some stated they simply just slid off or does fit a child etc. I soon realised that this issue can be resolved if they actually used the head strap that comes with it and removing the nose piece if you wanted to which alleviated the issue raised about comfort. The strap was never mentioned in any of the reviews etc.

This worked for me, even the sony demo i say they used a strap for the glasses. The improved comfort and the overall affect of the 3d and image quality of the pana vt20 and the extremely positive reviews from both users and press helped me make my decision. So i bought the pana vt20 and have never looked back. I hope this helps

Pioneer, being a relatively smaller company in TV manufacturing & yet a strong emphasis on research, had much higher overheads than companies like Samsung who were mass producing LCDs like nobody's business. No wonder that competition killed the Kuro in the worst economic recession of this generation.
