Sony KDL40W5500 v Panasonic TXP42S10B

Was very tempted by the Panny G10, but the only difference I could see between the G10 and S10 was the freesat HD, which I don't really want/need. Mainly going to be using these sets for Blu-Ray, Xbox 360 gaming and the other half's soaps!

Now obviously the Sony is 40" and LCD compared to the Pannys 42" Plasma, but the Sony £100 trade in is a big help!

All advice and feedback is welcome!

If memory serves me well the Panasonic S10 and G10 are very different animals as the far advanced G10 uses Panasonics great NeoPDP panals, the next generation on from the panal uses in the budget 42S.
Panasonic don't make a non freesat NeoPDP set so yes you would be paying for a function that you don't need but go and compare in a specialist shop. If you cannot tell difference between the G10 and S10 then stick with the cheaper route. If you use John Lewis price match they include 5 year cover for free on all TV's. So Richer Sounds seem to be offering the G10 at a great price if you don't include the extra they charge for 5 year cover and then get J.Lewis to match the price with cover included.

As for the Sony as has been discussed in the forum it has a very problematic clouding issue and many retailers refuse to replace or refund as Sony do not see this as a fault. Also the Sony has a very narrow viewing angle. It can produce great pictures and motion is natural, on the right settings but you have to be sitting in the correct position and without a problem TV to get that great picture.

I have neither of these tv's but have been going through a very time consuming period of choosing my own new 42" and have still to make a choice. The only reason I haven't got a Panasonic G10 is that in my option they are ugly beasts, yes they perform but the Sony's and Samsungs are much more attractive. Looks are not usually a point that worries me but is it is will be the most promenent thing in my living room looks are going to be a factor especially for the other half.
