I am looking at replacing my Pioneer 507XA (screen scracthed), I have a budget upto £1600.00 max.

Like so many of you, I just can't seem to decide on one of the below, and with none of the new Panasoincs getting an out right 5 start review (with the Pioneer LX509 outside my budget) I am struggling to decide.

I have short listed the following:

Pioneer 508XD (ex-display at my dealer, but mint)

Panasonic 50V10 (just for the THX Mode) or G10 (but don't like the asthetics)

Samsung UE46B6000 or 7020/7000 (slight concerns over back lighting clouding & motion).

Samsung PS50B650

I am only interested in pure blu ray (@24/fps) on my Denon DVD-2500BT & Sky HD picture quality/motion, not really interested in Widgets (bonus feature) and sound will be via my Onkyo etc. most new blu ray's will get their first viewing on my projector, although we do show a number of the childrens blu ray's on the TV.

80% of what I watch is HD, so SD is less important, my min viewing distance is 2.6m and Max is 3.8m.

I have been and had a look / demo-ed (expect the 508XD) and don't feel bowled over with the picture on any of them, although I do like the asthetics of all the Samsungs.

Your Help / comments would be great

I would say in this current climate either Samsung or possibly LG plasma in the screen size you are after as I have seen a Panasonic 48 inch with the dreaded vertical lines (less than a year old)in Plasma and it aint pretty. My lcd is more than adequate for 37 inch but I have a bad feeling that the latest Panasonics are not as good as the 2008 models they replace, whereas Samsung have impressed considerably this year and LG is a good budget alternative. In my own view Panny have concentrated more on features rather than quality which is a damn shame.

Your best judgement is obviously your own eyes. My brother in law bought a 46 inch LCD Sharp because it came with a free Blu Ray Player but my TX-37LZD85 still looks superior and I am baffled unless my HDMI Leads are of a better quality so dont skimp on those. Some Sony LCD receive five stars but some have the dreaded clouding effect so definately audition where you can.

Pioneer was obviously the best but now that it has ceased producing TVs I do not envy your predicament.

If you can find the Samsung 50B850 within your budget then your decision making problems will be all over.

Thanks for your replies.

I looked at the sony's but to be honest, I have a relative with a 46V3000 and it has back lighting and motion problems, so this has but me off, although the 52W/V are within budget.

I have looked at the new Samung PS50850, it's within budget, but I cannot find any reviews oir anywhere except online that stocks it, so I can't have a look at it.

At the moment I an leaning towards the samsung UE46B7020, I had another demo yesterday, the images seem super sharp, blacks look ok, and could see no clouding with nothing on the screen/input. It would look awsome flat on the wall with their 15mm slim wall mount.

A friend of mine recently purchased the Samsung PS-50B850 (after being swayed by seeing my PS-50P96FD in action after propper calibration) and I must say it is a cracking TV. Superb looks, very thin, and fantastic PQ IMHO far better than the 7020 you have mentioned especially where blacks are concerned.
