also speaker cables thrown in when bought.plus speaker stands not very dear.CD player has died so at the moment vinyl

has prime spot.i,m shaw this lot can sound a lot better,so where to start.i can afford to spend upto £1000 on cd player plus

money for cables & stands.also thinking about new turntable.sorry for long message

After all those years the Pioneer A400 and Rogers speakers are still a class act that are very hard to beat!

Tarquinh:Or the Rega Apollo?

TBH i dont think the amp or speakers would do the Rega Apollo justice; dont get me wrong, good amp but just not up to the Rega level.

IMO i think Mr AE is right; the NAD amp would fit well as would some good Chord Carnival Silverscreen speaker cable and Chord interconnects as well as the Rega turntable but you could also have a nosey at the Project turntables as well. Depends on how much you'll be listening to vinyl!

Think you mean NAD CD player, not amp. Fair enough, my reasoning was that the Rega Apollo+P3 would just come within budget, and that combination would withstand more than a few upgrades, whereas the NAD probably would not.

Can't comment on cables, mine are also old and I'm sceptical about the worth of spending a lot of money on cables.

quite like the idea of Rega P3 with Elys 2 cartridge have seen it online for £390.have been studying mag what hifi for CD players

your 2 suggestions i like, but was thinking of being realy daring & looking at cyrus 6s & 8s.or are they to good for my system.

also stands & cables

Apologies; yes i meant the CDP.

With regards to the Cyrus CDP;s yes, theyre superb but i feel that they'd be a little too forward for your system and again; pairing with the Pioneer amp, it'd be wasted IMO.

A decent midrange CDP like the NAD or a 2nd hand Arcam CD192 would be a spot on match IMO

anyone know where to purchase or to have a demo on Pioneer PD-D6 J it seems to have disappeared

I read elsewhere on this forum that it's being, or has been, discontinued. If you're set on the Rega turntable, then see if you can do a deal for one of their CD players, too.
