Burning Shed - run by artists for artists, being their slogan. Lots of progressive stuff there. A small hi-res section for FLAC downloads. Delivery is brilliant. Never had a seconds trouble. Apart from that Amazon and Ebay.

Amazon or eBay usually.

yep, sounds about right...ideally don't wanna buy from Amazon as they were expossed as serial tax dodgers..but no real alternative really :shame:

There's a difference between tax dodging that's illegal & tax avoidance that's the duty of any CFO worth his or her salt to maximise. Most profit seeking organisations don't consider moral issues until it pays to do so. I blame the government for allowing companies to get away with paying only token taxes!

God, eil.com Atticus? Have they changed their pricing policy? They're best reserved for that genuinely unobtainable item you don't mind coughing up the hard-earned for. And you will cough it up - vastly overpriced for a lot of stuff you can get for way less elsewhere.

I think I used it for just that - a hard to get album. Possibly mixed it up with overstocks.com

I'm amazed.

There are four pages of posts here and yet people in the main appear to buy their CDs from Amazon, HMV, Tesco and Asda. ASDA???!!!! That's like buying a car from Argos.

The last time I visited the music section of Asda, I don't recall seeing any Nils Frahm, Field Rotation, Epic45, Fabio Orsi etc. In fact, none of the above stores (including Amazon) stock any of these items - or the majority of records which I tend to purchase on a regular basis.

Asda might be OK for an Adele CD but "specialist" it is not!

As for decent independents, there are several good ones which provide an excellent mail-order service. A big thumbs-up to normanrecords.com in Leeds; Avalanche Records in Edinburgh; Action Records in Preston; Banquet Records; Boomkat; Rough Trade and Piccadilly Records.

There is also a growing number of specialist labels such as TRS (Time Released Sound), Fluid Audio, Club AC30, Erased Tapes, Sonic Pieces, Somehow Recordings and Death Waltz Recordings - all of which provide a decent mail-order service and tend to sell limited-edition variants of releases available only via their websites, particularly with regards to vinyl.

Providing they have it in stock -or on order - and not twice the price online, HMV (yes, we still have one!)

People can moan and groan they killed the independents (probably true), but I love my little HMV and I support it when I can:. I just love the physicality of browsing rather than "clicking" for my pleasure.

Since no one else has mentioned them, I use mdt.co.uk for 'classical' music. They have a good website, with much more chance of showing the actual contents of a box than amazon seem to manage. Plenty of bargains and deletions too.

Have also used zoverstocks a few times, but don't miss HMV I'm afraid.

CDs are commodities, it doesn't matter where you buy them from they still sound the same.

Chris

PS Your musical tastes seem to be rather specialist.

Never heard of any of those, and while I don't even pretend to be any kind of music expert, I'd humbly suggest it's no surprise that mass-market stores don't sell them. And as for buying a car from Argos...well if they can give me a good deal and offer the same service and warranty as a garage or dealer, pass me the Spring/Summer catalogue please...

Buy your music where you like, but please get your facts straight. As the links above show, all of the artists you claim are not stocked by Amazon (Nils Frahm, Field Rotation, Epic45, Fabio Orsi ) actually are. One of the primary reasons I use Amazon is that they almost always have what I am looking for.

You are incorrect Nils Frahm is on Amazon and reasonable price. Epic45 is also on there to at about £10. So is Fabio Orsi, Field Rotation only 1 album listed.

As I said Asda has nothing for me, what they call jazz and folk is a joke.

I think what MajorFubar was alluding to, is a high street shop, & not an online store like Amazon.

Correct yes I meant Asda and supermarkets. I'm a big fan of New Wave electronic music from Kraftwerk, Vangelis and Jean-Michel Jarre, but it's no surprise to me that I can't browse their complete back-catalogues in Asda. I don't expect Asda to provide shelf-space to minority-interest genres and artists. Though I expected the likes of HMV to offer a comprehensive selection from those artists, which it did.
