So I have combined luck and hard work (in the searching the net way) and bargain hunting to get the core products of my hi-fi system, which are an Arcam A32/P35 (they ended up costing, including Arcam repair, £400) and a CD192 (£250 a few months ago).
Truth is, though, that I live on the brink of poverty... so I decided to sell the A32/P35 and buy a record cleaning machine and offer a record cleaning service (I was thinking VPI 16.5, but I am hearing that I have to get an in-built fan else it all gets rather hot) and use the rest to pay off my credit card bill. I have bought a Marantz PM-6010 OSE for £66 as a stop gap until I get my newly restored Arcam SA-200/C-200 back or I find a suitable Sugden A28 Mk II.
The thought behind this move has been I cannot really afford this stuff and there is some classic British amps out there that (although they do different jobs) will take me 90% of the way there for a tenth of the price and, therefore, are good enough for me.
However I did not think to sell the CD192... but I just came for Andrew's blog post about the Oppo BDP-831 (I am sure that most of youe would of read it already as it is the top headline) which would combine CD/SACD/DVD/Blu-ray in one box
I have live my hi-fi life, which started in Aug '08 (before that my living circumstances did not allow for big box hi-fi), in the two channel arena... right now I do not have a TV (it goes through a TV card on my laptop). But now I am thinking, with the arrival of better and better HD-TV and Blu-ray that now might be the time to look at that again.
If I did a good job of selling the Arcam CD192... that Oppo player would almost nearly be paid for and could be the start of me exploring some of the possibilities that modern hi-fi/AV synergy could offer... after all that CD192 is not going to get any more valuable eh?
