A man of few words ... much to my liking.

Today ... my method was brilliant, unsurpassable and absolutely fool proof.; I went down the beach, about a hundred a yards from where I live, sunnied myself and read Bear Grylls 'Mud, sweat and tears'. - Forgot all about the records.

Tomorrow ... if I can be bothered, it will be a soak in an enzymatic solution followed by 'brushing', on the rack for a min then another brushing this time with a little fairy liquid added ...tap rinse and a final rinse and brushing with distilled water. Finally a once over with a synthetic chamois to get most of the water off and back on the rack for air drying. Done.

Everybody has their own ways but I can't afford a VPI and found this to be the kindest and most effective way.

My knosti is getting lots of use! On the whole had good results - however some records still display pops & crackles but I listen past them now.

My solution is:

1 part Isopropyl Alcohol to 5 parts distilled water with a few drops of Dishwasher Rinse Aid.

That sounds good Steve. Same here, not all albums will clean silent. Even got a new (old stock) one which crackles slightly ... after cleaning.

Perhaps I should get one of those Sikorsky's .

I used to get annoyed about it...the crackles & pops, but know I focus on the music and listen through the surface noise.

I only have 2-3% poor records, it is frustrating as to why some crackle & pop and some don't.

I have some really thin records from the 80's and they sound fantastic.

Way to go, music is what counts and a good recording on vinyl just sounds so ... alive.

A lot of my listening is through headphones which make faults probably even more obvious but it also allows a dynamic recording to come through unfestered in most of it's glory without room interaction (that sounds way more glorious than that I don't really want to disturb my neighbours little boy at night).

Some of these records will crackle because the damage has been done years ago, others probably have grime, nicotine etc, acumulated over decades which not even alcohol or an enzyme solution clean out in one go.

clean out in one go.

funny you mention that, sometimes I have gone to a record a few days after the inital clean with a 2nd or 3rd clean with excellent results.

Two that come to mind are a Dave Brubeck LP and Lost Boys OST, they were pretty bad, but now perfect!
