What tweaks would you recommend for my system?

Exactly as the title says. Not looking to spend huge amounts, just something that'll give it a bit more...

Never tried mains conditioners, although a couple of respected dealers did say that (with my old set-up) the difference wouldn't be worth the extra expense. That could be wrong, but always been dubious given you only clean a 240v current so much.

Again cables: I've been a bit skeptical but I've only heard budget ones...

Current cables: Merlin Chopin (CDP to amp); Chord Crimson Plus (Sky box to amp); Cambridge Studio Ref (tuner to amp); Chord Chrysalis (DVD to amp); kettle (mains) leads all-round; Chord Carnival SilverScreen.

Suggestions are welcome.

A tacima and some sorbothane under the speakers would be my first suggestion. Ferrite cores around any cabling entering the amplifier the next one.

Even so, some decent shielded mains cables;

Get some decent contact cleaner (not lubricant) and clean all RCA's, speaker sockets etc. Dont waste money on De-oxit and other expensive brands.

Look at all this like it's a spring clean.

As for cabling, you can't really go wrong with silver plated copper in a ptfe or teflon sleeve.

Hi PP,

I hope this thread wont become a cable debate. I would suggest to try a Chord powerchord on your cd5i if you can borrow from your local dealer🙂

Difficult to say without heaps of details & circumstances. Best bang per buck (hate that phrase) IMO is speaker placement (free) and room treatment (cheap to sky's the limit.

PP are you serious? or tsking the proverbial!

This forum gets worse!

change the amp

The amp is brilliant. The CDP is fabulous and the speakers gorgeous. Course I'm serious about the question, also could be wrong about eeking out a little extra.

Will look at the suggestions put forward and see where it takes me.

ok PP do some tweaks on yer TT

Such as?

If I really wanted to I could have the engine on the Alfa remapped, which means having the engine mangement tweaked, this'll give me about 30-50 extra BHP. That equates to about 1/2 a second 0-62 quicker than it already is and an extra 10 miles an hour top end. So basically I'm looking at a hi-fi equivalent, if that makes sense.

I don't know about the Project decks.

Since I have had the ST40, I went back to factory settings with my RP6 - standard sub platter, standard belt - left the Tecnoweight on as its a ball ache to remove. With the ST40 being transparent these little tweaks are really noticable especially when I put the GT sub platter back on.

I have tried Couple 1 & 2 between my phono stage & amp - NO audible difference

However been playing about with VTF and this DOES make a difference -

Think I have probably taken the RP6 as far as I can barring an acrylic platter but reading up on it many people prefer the glass platter

But you are PP , the mega poster who helps all the noobs out by delving into your bottomless pit of experience , the guy who wants to find out if the 'valve boys' have got it right. Why the f88k are you asking for tweak reccos to try.

Your Leema is 'brilliant'. Always told you it was bright but you wouldnae have it 😉

The best tweak around: http://www.whatrecords.co.uk/ (or any other e- or B&M shop).

It never fails. And nobody can't say that it doesn't/can't make a difference. :shhh:

if they did the Sonos in black I would have 10 around my house and tell the kids they can use them for target practice with a tommy gun

Nice system PP but in my opinion (and no it's not a cable thread) but you do appear to have a bit of a mish-mash on that front.

Mine was the same a few years ago just using whatever I had but I decided to stick with one brand (actually two if I'm truthful) throughout.

It can, and I think it does, make a reasonable difference.
