Hi there...

can anyone help me choose a tv for the budget in the topic?

My viewing distance is 3meters.

I have read the what hi fi reviews but every time i say to myself "that tv will probably do" I go to try and find it online and I cant find the tv anywhere. do manufacturers stop selling old panels as soon as they bring out new ones to keep prices high? It

My only requirement is that the tv has the best all round tv/dvd/blu-ray picture my money can buy. I like the idea of a smart tv, but if its not possible in my budget then such is life :)

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks folks !!

Hi humate,

Do you have a preference in size at all? Is gaming a factor for you?

cheers

Sorry i should have mentioned this. Im looking for something around 40inches (a little bigger or smaller is not a problem) and gaming isnt a factor. i really have no idea where to start. Most of the reviews i find are for the bigger more expensive screens.

Just get John Lewis to price match:

I'd suggest seeing if you can view the ones gel's suggested. Don't accept the shop settings though, play around if they let you. You might find you prefer plasma to LCD/led or the other way round. Many people have a preference and this would greatly reduce your choices. Having said that the st60 might be the only plasma you can afford in that bracket. If you can be patient wait for a few more reviews to come out. WHF will probably do a 40-42" super test sometime and on the flip side, prices will full if you can wait.

Thanks guys. I better check on the plasma vs lcd. I guess i shoulf make a trip to a store to have a look. I will play around with the settings... but do u think somewhere like john lewis do a better job at setting the tvs up compared to like currys? I dont have a decent independent store near me.

I have no idea, I was in JL the other day and they were feeding the plasma's very poor video signal and the LEDs great video signal, but the contrast on the LEDs was to hi. Frankly every tv looked awful! Make a call and see if one will let you demo your own material. If they will then they will probably let you play with the settings a bit as well.

good luck

What do you mean by "setting thenTV up"?

John Lewis is much much better than Currys. John Lewis and Richer Sounds always feature in top 5 in customer service and after sales support in the entire industry (not just electronics). Also, John Lewis offers a free 5 year guarantees on all TVs it sells. Of course, it also price matches other store prices.

If a problem develops in a TV you bought from Currys, you'll be tearing your hair out trying to sort it.

can anyone tell me what the difference is between these two tv's. Im confused by the samsung nomenclature !! what does the F stand for?

http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/samsung/ue40f7000/sams-ue40f7000

ES models are 2012 models, while F are 2013 models.

Here's a review of the F7000:

And of ES7000:

I saw the 40inch f6400 (i think it was this one), f7000 and f8000 in richer sounds today. I cant afford full stop the 8000 series so thats out (although it looked the best to me). I really want to get the f7000 but its still too expensive even at the totaldigital price of £936. I thought the 7000 looked considerably better than the series 6. In peoples past experience... how long would i have to wait for the f7000 to drop to £700 ?? If its like 4 months i guess I will just have to go with the series 6.

I wish i hadnt of gone into the shop now :)

It is going to take a while unfortunately! And Total Digital seems to be quite a bit cheaper than elsewhere.

You have to click on the 40 inch range, and then look at buying options.

What i dont get from the samsung series 6 range is the 6500 is more expensive than the 6800. Logically u would expect the 6800 to be better. Anyone know the key difference between these two tvs?

Gel, is the J.L. clearance sale on the web too? or is it specific stores?
