What to understand before floorstanding speakers purchase?

I have considered the 309 but the listening session was not so convincing. Clearly it's better than mines. But I was not so charmed. The 500 series is a killer one!

I am increasingly considering the Illumine.

If you can't get to a dealership near you to listen to speakers. Find a dealer that allows you to return the speakers within 14-30 days no questions asked. Maybe you can find such dealer in France?

Don't mean to be an echo but Graphs and specs will only get you so far, the former graphs I've found to be of no use for anything to the consumer.
Specifications on the other hand are a must in weeding out the obviously unsuitable ie a 45 watt speaker wouldn't be enough for loud listening in a large room, and you wouldn't want to be driving low ohm speakers with the wrong amp ending in an impromptu BBQ, but after that you really do need to let your ears pick the speakers you like.
(On looking I was surprised at the amount of Hifi dealers around you, although I don't know your possibilities in getting to them, failing that I'd imagine with the amount online theirs going to be a few that would take an upfront payment to allow a home demo although don't quote on me that)

Only recently i demoed all sorts looking for amp upgrade in which taking my large floorstanders with me was out of the question so I asked for a home demo which usually isn't a problem, you on other hand don't have that problem as it's speakers your wanting to demo with I presume an existing amp, making it a case of being able to relatively easily unplug your amp and take it to a demo room with you, made all the more easy when considering the pitfalls of getting a pair of speakers that are a bad partnering, despite the myths and truths of synergy and there's a lot of them it's definitely a genuine thing to consider with the two most fundamentally important things in a good hifi, and thats the two that give the most impact on what you hear, the amp and speakers.

Sure like many here I would guess at have also made a blind punt on that amazing deal using reviews alone as the thought of someone else getting whatever it is first is too much, and usually it's been worth the somewhat educated punt even occasionally stumbling on some partnerings that good it's more like a marriage, but I also made a mistake once with purchasing a pair of Dali speakers that sounded so good in the demo room with a predecessor to one of my amps from the same line, although it was the same brand in Arcam making it all the more likely they would sound as good given I'd even owned the above amp prior due to their similar almost "house" sound, when I got the Dali's home they sounded fatiguing and altogether thin, I couldn't get them to fill the room in any placement format.

It cost me time and money by having to this time with amp in hand go and demo towards their replacements, i always take my amp now unless the shop has the same type in which is definitely worth the small inconvenience as in this case i found a pair of small floorstanders that box way above their weight in everything making my bedroom hifi sometimes blur the lines between it and my much more expensive gear.

So true, the great sound from the demo room doesn't necessarily correlate to the same sound in your own room.
I think it would be absolutely fabulous if dealerships are able to lease their demo speakers at a reasonable cost to the user, like someone wishing to hire a car.
This would be mutually beneficial to both dealership and prospective buyer.
The dealer gets additional revenue from the hire and the user gets to use the speakers in their domestic setup without the need to commit to making the purchase.

I am still confident.

I had the opportunity to try my heed on JMR Euterpe, on Klipsch RF ???, on Apertura and Proac D18.

Best association (quite different with wow !!) were JMR & Proac.

The D20R are known as the beer association with the Obelisk si3. I never heard it before. Anayway, these speakers are sold 5k! The new ones are sold 2,4k with h a 30day testing period.
Before direct sales, these same speakers were sold at the same price of the PROAC

I am questioning if with the modest heed 2x50w I have to pay attention to :
94 db or 89db or 91db?
If the bandwidth can be heard in my room : 40 Hz – 22 kHz 30 Hz – 25 kHz (-3dB) 38 hz - 20 kzh at -3db

None of those speakers with those sensitivity ratings are a problem for a 50w amp.

However, if you're a beginner, I'd suggest you look elsewhere than kit speakers for now - if you can - and until you know exactly the kind of sound you like from the gear you buy. You really need to know that long before you start thinking about buying new gear.

The only way you might get away with this is if there is an option to return if you don't like what you buy. If not, then it might be one costly mistake after another.

EDIT: Just spotted that you added your reply ahead of mine. If you've a 30 day sale or return, then all good. Hefty speakers to repack if you opt against keeping them though...!

Some boxes arrived @11:00 pm today.
At first I was lost. What to expect as a beginner ?
I started with Dire Straits Communiqué. More power than the previous ones but it seems normal. I was questioning does it worth this amount of money? For me it's a huge one ! I cannot go higher and 2,4K€ is a huge amount for me.

The weight! 3rd floor with no lift. It was a pain (arm injured). I was enthusiast once they arrived in the living room. They are clearly artisan made! The speakers grilles are heavy.

I put my only one Mofi vinyl on the TT : Brother in Arms. I pumped up the volume and... the sound seemed to me more detailed with more space between instruments.

After a huge emotion with Money for nothing & Your latest trick I moved to Get Ready and I have the same shock. The snare is so real! The bass kick is shaking my stomach. 10,000 F words per song I realized the significant gap between the previous ones and these ones. 25cm higher, 5cm wider, same larger they control the basses live the previous did not.

Avishai Cohen with Rememberings & his latest album ... wow. The strings on his fretboard are incredible. I have listened it at 89/90db and I never though I could reach that sound in my living room.

Now its time to try metal prog & heavy music to compare with the higher frequencies and the previous messy results.

Can't wait to welcome my GF to sit down, prepare a Gin and place a vinyl on the TT. She has bionic hears.

The result is incredible to my ears.
The Obelisk si3 can drive them with no problem. I cannot go over 10’o clock on the volume knob.
The sensitivity appears huge to me.
I wondering what would be the final result after 10 or 20 years running.
