Kind of a twist to my opening comment, I think What Hifi can take a leaf from some serious Youtube bona fide reviewers such Jay Iyagi, including Lachlan from Passion for Sound, are incredibly analytical in terms of their presentation. See link below, let me have your thoughts.

Ha ha ha, note the words on Lachlan's sweater, USB Cable, honest please believe me, I wasn't trying to wind you up :)

Why do they though? Ultimately a WHF review is just one person’s opinion. Most likely a less experienced one, based on current editorial staff, than many YouTubers who have garnered a good reputation.

Nothing about a WHF review, other than it being done in my front room, would ever convince me about anything in particular.

As someone else said already, a reviewer doesn’t have my ears, my room, my existing equipment, nor my taste in music. Far too many variables.

YouTubers are reviewing for a reason it doesn't mean they are any good or have apropriate means of analysis, they are doing it for a reason that any other group of reviewers dont as they are paid to do so. Reviewing for a purpose or purely for self -indulgent is the crux. Once again purely one person's view.
Basically all are meaningless until you go listen for yourself.

I completely agree, my point was that in many cases they probably have a more relevant/detailed/better opinion than some at WHF.

To be fair, that’s one thing WHF reviews are not. One person’s work that is. Their whole ethos is on a team approach (minimum two people), unlike most other journals who name tag the solo reviewer accordingly.

They do explain this in their magazine from time to time, if not every edition. And it’s here too, if you scroll down a bit.

If you believe that, you'll also believe the moon is made from cheese, earth is flat and Owen Farrell tackles within the laws of rugby!

Well, in the days they were based in Teddington they kindly invited a few loyal readers every so often to their premises. PP will remember it too, was it called ‘readers panel’ or something? We got to tour the premises, meet the team, have lunch in the nearby pub, then take part in a listening session during the afternoon.

It was pretty clear that this was the case. One member obviously wrote the words, but based on joint views about overall performance and where the kit under review stood relative to its price range rivals.

Unfortunately, I’ve not been to the moon, or fallen off the earth. And I don’t follow rugby!

Yeah, it was the Big Question, where they invited different members once a month to review certain pieces of hi-fi, AV, cables etc etc. I was invited to hear different amps with two different speakers (ATC SCM11 against Ruark Sabre 3). @bigboss was invited to test AV stuff... each month the Big Q was featured in the mag.

Yes I was invited to a blind test on stereo amplifiers vs AVRs for music. They had a great setup and listening room. It was very well conducted.

Looks like you already have one from your signature. Presumably it’s “perfect”, as ASR like them? What do you reckon?
I was estactic about the Topping E50, a great budget DAC but Eversolo Z8 just brings the music to another level, yes it's many times the price but worth every penny spent.

I can best describe the sound as organic, for me it was like when I first pulled out my vinyls, I just wanted to keep listening to the music. Sorry I've been almost gospel about the Eversolo but when something is that good, just want to share the love. :)

Apart from the sound quality, the interface is really polished and intuitive and yes, I love those virtual VDU's.
The headphone socket is good but I prefer my SingXer SA1 head amp. Connectivity is well served, it has bluetooth, I don't see the need but some people might want to pair their phones with the DAC. The best feature for me is the two USB inputs B and C.
USB B is connected to the digital transport/streamer and USB C is connected to my PC.

Eversolo is a new name created by it's parent company Zidoo, I think they only have four products in their porfolio and it's amazing every product they've launched have all been received favourably. I hope they'll grow from strength to strength, and not become a one hit wonder.
