Many thanks for your advice from my previous post, I have done some research into the CD Players you mentioned, the Cyrus CD6s sounds like a good machine, though having reviewed your What-HiFi Ultimate Guide, I noticed that the CD6s was in comparison with the Roksan Kandy MkIII and the Arcam CD192, also the Cyrus CD8x after. I tend to listen to a variety of music genres, mainly dance/trance and dj sets, bit of rock/bands (Arctic Monkeys, Killers etc) so i need to get a player that will suit these types of music, time really well and get the most from the music, I really liked what you had to say about the Arcam CD192 and have heard that its one of the best around, what do you think? The Cyrus CD8x review also impressed me, is it worth spending the extra money for these compared to the CD6s, I know that they are probably a few classes above the rest of my kit but i want to get a top notch cd player with the intent of upgrading the rest of my set up to suit in the near future, if I was to go with a Cryus CD8x, what amp and speakers would you recommend to go with it? Alternativley, If it was the Arcam CD192 what would partner well? (with the types of music i listen to), I have a soft spot for B&W speakers and would love to get some, what ones do think would go well with the above set ups?

Kind regards

I use the Arcam CD192 at home with the Primare Pre30/A30.2 pre/power amp and B&W 805 speakers and love it - it works brilliantly with all types of music. Alternatively you could try it with the Primare I30 integrated amp (£1500).

Both the Cyrus CD6s and CD8x are fantastic - if you go for the latter, partner it with the Cyrus 8vs2 amp (£800) and either the PMC DB1+ (£675) or Epos M12.2 (£450) speakers for a top-notch system.

The great advantage of buying hi-fi separates is that you can build your system one item at a time, so I'd go for the best CD player you can afford at this stage and then upgrade the amp and speakers in due course.

As I am new to the forum (not new to hifi though) I am not quite sure why Cyrus are the big hit in here! I am not knocking the cyrus as I have owned the CD7Q in the past and love it but there are many better kits out there for the price!
For your music taste (compress-ish recording brit rock) I would certaily have a look at 2nd hand MF nu-vista 3d (around £1,200) and power them with Krell 300i (approx £850). For speakers I would go for a pair of B&W 703 (£800 -£900) which would gel well with Krell's mega bass attack.
Cyrus will reveal too much for the like of artic monkeys and it would be too bright if patner with B&W. All in my humble opinion.

Just a note, but the latest generations of Cyrus kit - post RoHS (ruling that said manufacturers had to take lead etc out of products) tweaks - aren't as edgy as previous generations, without losing any of the pace or detail. Yes, they still need careful partnering (and using Cyrus' own cables makes a big difference, too), but if people haven't heard the kit for a while, they should know the sound has mellowed somewhat...
