After reading the mega test I thought it was a poor selection of headphones with some dubious results. There are some real big players missing from this line up and the reviews certainly do not tally up with what I have heard from some of the headphones.
The review of the Monster beat pros is one that stands out as being particularly misleading; I think it is pretty well known in the Head-Fi community that the offerings from the beats range of products yield poor performance to price. Yet in this review they gain four stars ? Bose Quietcomfort 5 stars ? Another is the Grado PS1000 being hailed as the ultimate Hi-Fi can.......er no its not, first off the build quality at £1795 should be impeccable, anyone who has owned a set of Grado's will know there build quality is middle of the road at best. Grado's also have a coloured sound signature which is prevalent right across there range of products, some people love it and others don't. Surely the ultimate Hi-Fi can should offer a more neutral/natural sound which is more representative of the original recording.
The only conclusion I have drawn from these reviews is that certain headphone manufacturers must contribute considerably to the what Hi-Fi advertising revenue 😉
While I totally disagree with your conclusion (I hate to see uncalled for accusations of corruption), I see the point of your other comments.
I know WHF review teams really like the sound of Grado cans, but in general Grado isn't nearly that well regarded among headphone enthusiasts... It seems to be a very polarising brand due to the very particular style of presentation.
Also, Beats and Bose are not respected among headphone enthusiats...
While the test included 40 cans, that doesn't really mean very much for any particular price point... Clearly the very expensive Grados were unlikely to face serious competition from the majority of the cans in the Supertest...
If the world's best headphones are to be declared, then the top contenders should be in the test lineup: Audeze LCD 2, HiFiMan HE6 & HE500, Senheiser HD800, Beyerdynamic T1, Denon AH-D700, Stax Omega etc...
So the basic point that the Supertest is controversial is understandable. That said, I still see no reason to detract from your main point by tossing around accusations...
