Gerrardasnails:Garland, I say again that you obviously haven't listened to the 840C and you obviously don't know how the star ratings work. The 840 has won numerous awards at a price range above the Rega.

Warren, been there, done that. Not a great cd player by a huge margin.

Do I know you? First "Short Stuff" and now using my name! I feel like I'm being stalked!!

Are you saying that if a £2k Cd player (Rega Saturn) beats a £750 player easily then the cheaper one is rubbish?!?

the retail price of an item is often determined by the overheads and debt the manufacturing company has ... so in my books, price means absolutely zilch

Could be worse. He could start with "Dear heart."

Garland Genoho:FrankTheTank:Garland Genoho:Gerrardasnails:Garland Genoho:Gerrardasnails:Garland Genoho:You cannot with the BT2500. Your set-up is very good....no budget cd will beat the sound you now enjoy.

I disagree. The amp if we use the rough estimate of av receiver at £1k is the equivalent to a £300 stereo amp for music, he has a decent £600 level stereo amp. The speakers are very nice and a budget bd player can easily be upped by a say, £300-500 cd player. If he is interested in using computer music and a DAC, he could get the Cambridge Audio 740 or 840c which have digital inputs. The 840c would batter the bd player ( as would the 740). If a DAC is not needed, the Rega Apollo is very well liked and you can get very good deals on the Arcam CD192.

That was my opinion, short stuff! Cambridge audio is rubbish. Rega apollo YES! Arcam is boring.

you obviously haven't heard the 840c then. It's a better cd player than the Rega, without doubt.

CA 840C @£750.00 (4 stars), Rega Apollo @£475.00 (5 stars). CA is over-rated and rubbish.

No offense but that is absolute rubbish. Are you just going on the one review or have you heard it?

I have owned the Rega Apollo. CA kit I've owned are CD4, CD5, 540C, 640c V1 & 2 - they were all rubbish. I have heard the 840C - not impressed. My cousin owns it and he has replaced it with a Rega Saturn which according to him, is 'night and day' with the 840C - so it's rubbish too.

You seem to be struggling with the concept of fair comparisons. You can't say a CD player is "rubbish" because it is not as good as one that costs more than twice as much! I would have thought that is common sense really. You also appear to be saying that Cambridge Audio as a whole are "rubbish". If they are, can i ask why you have owned approx 5 different units? If they were so rubbish why did you keep buying more?

Yes, 5 CA products that have helped me tremendously to conclude that CA is rubbish. Full stop.

I'm glad it doesn't take me 5 times to decide whether something is rubbish or not. Could prove to be very expensive!

gg could you explain more fully and in sonic terms what you mean by rubbish too lean too bright lacks dynamics all that sort of thing

im genuinely interested by the way because tho i can see the qualities of ca gear ive always found it lean and verging on brightness
