I have eventualy settled on the Monitor Audio Silver RS range for speakers.

I like the sound and the look

Starting off with an initial purchase of some RS 6's

then over the next few years i will add a

Sub - RSW12

center - RSLCR

then will probably pick up some RS8's and put the 6's at the rear (or use on a seperate system)

i currently have about £1000 and add to it at about £70 a month with the RS6's being about £600-650 i still have a few months to go before i can get a decent amp.

My local dealer doesnt stock Onkio but can supply it if need be.

Mainly he would recomend Marantz and i have heard the speakers in this set up.

It looks like onkio is refreshing its range so the newer versions would probably go out of my price range but i may be able to get a reasonable deal on the 875 or 905

Any recomendations on the best fit for the speakers.

nowhere local can do a comparison between the Onkio and Marantz but i like some of the extra features on the Onkio boxes.

Is it worth saving for the 905 or buy the 875 (extra 4 month wait)

any other ideas?

RS8's as fronts and RS6's as rears - that's a bit extravagant for rear speakers. I'd suggest if you're not going with the surround rears that come with the RS6 AV's (which are excellent) I'd go for RS1's as rears and stand mount them. Just how big is your room?

As far as your amp goes, I find the 875 is excellent with the Monitors.

As you're prepared to wait a little before buying.. I would. There's the new big Onk (876) due, plus top-end Pioneers and Yamahas still to test, among others - we'll be testing them all as soon as they arrive, so i'd watch this space.

If you can't wait, both the 875 and 905 Onkyos are great movie powerhouses with exceptional upscaling. Would the Marantz beat them for music replay? Probably, but not for movies - your call over which matters most to you.

Funnily enough, I had a listen to a Monitor Audio system with an Onkyo 875 recently and it sounded awesome. It was with a Pixar Blu-Ray and a PS3. Someone else was getting a demo and I just stood in the background lurking jealously ;-) Didn't get to her it with music unfortunately so I can't comment on that.

Nice new pic BTW Clare.

Don't forget though, that if you wait for the latest batch of receivers, you'll be forking out full price.

You may find that the 875 for around £700 is a very tempting proposition.

Thanks for the input.

I will probably go for the 875 (once the 876 has come out) and see what deals are about.

i am assuming the 876 will be back up around the £1000 mark.
