HDNumpty:garethwd:Im suprised that im the only one with american beauty in my list!

Not any more you're not!

Superb movie - I named it top Oscar-winning movie on DVD when I edited DVD Magazine (mind you, this is back in 2000 when, incredibly, tons of Academy Award winners still weren't available on disc...).

Think Sam Mendes' next - Road to Perdition - was underrated, too...

Yes quite marvellous film - and all too often forgotten. Hilarious, touching, amazing all in equal measure. The depth of the characters is unbelievable.

Return of the Jedi seems to get a few votes here which surprises me, I think it's equal last (with The Phantom menace) of the Star Wars films.

The Luke/Vader/Emperor scenes are some of the best in the entire saga and the space battle still holds up well but the rest of was a complete let down to me. . . especially after following the greatness that is TESB.

So, fairly predictable really. Although the entire list changes every now and then. Except Jaws, I love that film.

I agree. Looking back, though, at the time of release TESB wasn't considered the classic it has turned out to be. ROTJ had some pretty good scenes, but for me the cute little bears spoiled the suspense.

We're not going to put our favourite 10 films as many have been mentioned, and it's just impossible to pick 10, as we can quite easily pick 10 from Tarantino, 10 from Kubric, 10 from Carpenter.........

But we're surprised no-one has mentioned any of these........ (but we apologise if any have been mentioned)

Zodiac

French Connection

Rio Bravo

Sideways

The Descent

Ghostbusters

Robin Hood (Errol Flynn)

Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid

Dr.Strangelove

Killer (John Woo)

Halloween (John Carpenter)

Night Of The Living Dead

On The Waterfront

Back To The Future trilogy

Lawrence Of Arabia

Irreversible

Grindhouse

Fargo

Escape From New York

Oh Mr.Porter

Oldboy

Switchblade Romance

Seventh Samurai

Yojimbo

The Day The Earth Stood Still

American Werewolf In London

Young Frankenstein

Stir Crazy

Psycho (Hitchcock)

Traffic

Out Of Sight

Shaun Of The Dead

The Infernal Affairs trilogy

And before anybody moans about that's more than 10 films, this isn't a favourite 10 films list! It's a list oif films that should've been mentioned already....... :)

And we narrowed it down.......

Hmmm that's tricky...... but off the top of my head

Pulp Fiction

Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels

Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas

Gone In 60 Seconds

Goodfellas

Casino

The Usuall Suspects

Sin City

Matrix (The 1st film)

The Blues Brothers

I now we are only supposed to have 10 but...

LOTR trilogy, Ferris Buellers Day Off, American Beauty, Alot of the Bond films, especially the old digitally remastered Connery's.

Probably a good few favourites I have missed off the list.

And not a film but I have to say favourite dvd's has to be The Soprano's.

Really hard to just pick 10, and totally depends what sort of mood I am in as well.

I did mention Back to the Future in my post on page 1 ! Some others you mention would also feature on my best films list, had it not been limited to just 10. Then my list would easily make it into the 20s or 30s.

Fair play Frank. I loved Zodiac, Sideways, Fargo, Out Of Sight and Haloween from your list and Switchblade Romance (never heard of it) has reminded me of another, Sling Blade!
