Just started re-watching the Beeb's adaptation of Gormenghast, its millennium drama. Love it - stellar cast, great costumes and sets (allowing for budget). Alas a lot of actors no longer with us.

No doubt she was a gold digger, but the courts never asked her essential questions, such as where did she get the gun. Also how did she outside the Magdaler pub so quickly? All these questions should have been an automatic part of her defence. Also, the beatings she received from David Blakeley, incl losing an unborn baby.

Yep, it's beyond belief they didn't ask basic questions.

Let's say, for hypothetical purposes, that a random person is happy to murder three young girls at a Taylor Swift dance event.

Or, hypothetically again of course let's say, somebody (and/or his brother) thinks it's a good idea to wipe out 22 lives at an Ariana Grande concert.....oh and for good measure, seriously, permanently injure some prison guards after devising ways to deliberately do so.

Now let's imagine said persons show absolutely no remorse.
In fact they joyfully celebrate their actions.
THERE IS NO MISTAKING WHAT THEY'VE DONE let's be clear about that.

Throw in the killer of dear old David Amess and I don't know (or frankly, care) about anyone else, but I for one would gladly see the death penalty in 3 such cases at least.

Where there is a situation of deminishing responsibility or death by extreme provocation or homicide in domestic settings, gang warfare or robbery, I think Corporate Punishment shouldn't apply.
There should be exceptions where I think it is appropriate, such as repeated or serial killing, genocide and terrorism.
I'm inclined to include, murdering children, mother or father can be excused if it can be proved to be infanticide.
As it was mentioned in previous post, it something we can't influence the outcome and I appreciate and respect your opinion may differ to mine.
I'll stop here and let's get back to the thread.

I knew about much of the info in the Ruth Ellis programme long before the miniseries was aired. Our Lib dem councillor, who we know quite well, Monica Weller, wrote a book on Ruth Ellis.

There's more detective shows on TV than you can shake a stick at. Pretty much all of them are complete and utter rubbish. I can't be doing with it. Mrs P loves some of them. At which point I either go out and do the cooking or lose myself at the local shops.

However, there is one I'm more than happy to actually sit and watch:

Foyle's War.

It's a delightful series. The stories are interesting and the character chemistry is wonderful.

There's the fiercely loyal Samantha Stewart, Foyle's driver. Honeysuckle Weeks nails that character to a tee. Delightful.

Foyle's fantastic sidekick, Sgt Milner. The character development of Andrew Foyle, Christopher Foyle's pilot son. Again, he shows how the stresses and strains impacted on young pilots.

Great supporting cast in each episode, once again they dovetail into each storyline like a glove.

Finally, Christopher Foyle, played brilliantly by Michael Kitchen.

IMO it's one of the best dramas around.

I remember seeing it first time around. It was okay, but since the original series of The Sweeney and The Professionals, very few cop shows tug my rug.

Although not a trad cop show, Spooks was very good. Otherwise Foyle's War is well ahead of the current crop of detective series.

Cracking University Challenge final last night - astoundingly close. Quite how people know the vast amount that the teams do is utterly beyond me, though I was chuffed to get two answers that they didn't.

I did really enjoy the book, but never gelled with the third part. Curse of seeing a TV series before reading a book, I guess!

Love Death and Robots season 4 on Netflix .

The Red Hot Chilli Peppers intro was brilliant.

I think the critics expectations were self-defecating, it wasn't aligned with season 4 going off theme.

The little spin on cats was genius.

Other stories not so strong but it was mostly 11 episodes of pure magic.
